Maybe it's gonna be like a classic PC text adventure:
You run into a Grey Child. What do you do?
>attack
Attack what?
>attack gray child
I don't recongnize that command.
>attack grey child
What do you want to attack it with?
>steel pipe
What do you want to do with the Steel Pipe?
>attack
Attack what?
>attack grey child
>What do you want to attack it with?
>attack grey child with steel pipe
You attack the Grey Child, doing 2 hit points damage. You can now attack, defend or run. What do you do?
>defend
Grey Child attacks you, doing 50 hit points damage. You're Dead. GAME OVER

We're missing the big question here: how's there gonna be any steel pipe action with no combat? Hot monster-on-monster action.

4. Horror movies and games are two completely different things. One of the things I did not enjoy about Silent Hill 4 was the fact that the most you could do with the ghosts is run. Sure it was scary, but it soon turned annoying after a while. It didn't make me feel unempowered. It made me feel like I was just running through the game and it got boring. They can't compare the scenes in a film with scenes in a game and act as if they are the same and can match up. A movie you watch, a game you play. A game is interactive. You get to make choices. In a game you should at least have some sort of option to fight. It seems as if in this game there is none and I find that may get boring over time, even more so than in Silent Hill 4. As far as relating to nightmares go, nightmares are different from really being in a environment with danger confronting you. Also to use a childs nightmare to compare to a adult running around a town such as Silent Hill isn't the best example. A lot of adults face their fears in nightmares and in reality. I just don't believe that this is a good reason for completely removing the combat system either. 5. You don't have to be super powerful to defend yourself and to fight something off. In a horrifying situation, adrenaline pumps through the human body and actually increases it's strength. You could put up a fight even in such a situation. My point is that I don't believe it's realistic to take the option of fighting away from the entire game. In real life you either fight or fly. Sometimes being forced to fight is more scary than having to flee. That's a solid point you make in (4). It did get annoying. I (as many other fans) want to take my time and explore the place and see every little detail around me. How are u supposed to do that when you have to run through? True you're not supposed to be there for sightseeing but it messes with your personal pace I think. It didn't matter if there wasn't going to be a monster for another 10 minutes, taking my pace I could built tension myself with paying attention to details. About (5).. I think that in reality every one of us would really only fight if we were cornered and even then it would be 1-2 hits just so we can again run away. I doubt anyone would stay more than that there with a melle weapon... maybe a bit more if we had a gun at best taking into account that ammo isn't endless. Even if one was brave enough I think he would fall back to running after the first nice big scratch in his face/hands that would cover him with blood. Cause if we're talking reality here there's no health drink that can fix you up in the real world. But is reality what SH is all about? It is a game at the end of the day. If we take as given that monsters represent something then someone would like to take a good look at them. Hell I stood there watching them when I firstly played SH1 not knowing that just because they were not close to anything I had seen before. They're much more than just enemies. But in reality for one to stand there it could only be because of shock.

From IGN:
- Harry has crashed on the side of the road while in a snowstorm. - Harry’s daughter is missing, and he sets off into Silent Hill to find her - game kicks off with in a psychiatrist’s office where we hear of a new patient arriving. After that exchange, we see Harry fall from his car into the snow just after his crash. We then flash back to the office with the psychiatrist talking to this new patient - camera is first person during the office segment. You can look around while the psychiatrist talks - you must fill out a psychiatric profile - when asked questions by the psychiatrist, you can wave your Wiimote up and down/left to right to answer - after this exchange you flash back to the accident with Harry calling for his daughter - almost every decision you make impacts the game. For example, if you first choose to look at your map or a girlie calendar on the wall, the game makes note of this decision - an example of early changes: as you fill out your profile, the game will present you with different situations. When walking through town, you might see an open bar or an open diner. These things change as you make more and more choices - minus button to bring up your phone, which houses all sorts of important information - use phone to dial, take pics, text, check voicemail, browse phonebook, changes options and settings (whose viewer shows a slowed framerate a la iPhone) to take and store pictures, check text messages and voice mail, look through your phone book, and access game options and settings - take pictures of the environment to reveal new details: take a picture of a swingset with no one around it, look at the pic to see your daughter sitting on the swing - pictures can cue voicemails and other occurrences - game world changes from Silent Hill to evil Silent Hill right before your eyes - no longer a hellish look…things are more ‘icy’ - static on your phone still clues you in as it did in past games - stunning flashlight effects - Nunchuk to walk, hold Z to run, C for 180-turn, A for actions, B-trigger plus A to pick items up, D-pad for phone, D-pad down to view behind you - intelligent enemies will hunt you down, talk to other enemies to find you, open doors and climb fences - one again, no weapons - Harry talks to himself throughout the game to rehash info - no load times - camera filter returns from previous games - flashlight will even light up snowflakes - Wii is the lead platform
Now, just let me say: WAT!? to this: - intelligent enemies will hunt you down, talk to other enemies to find you, open doors and climb fences. WAT!?

If it was a new game, I wouldn't mind this stuff so much. But since it's a remake of Silent Hill 1, it sucks.

Still holding my breath for this one. I still don't know if I 'like' this. Need a few more previews, maybe a trailer or a couple gameplay vids would help.
One thing that hasn't changed for me is wishing this was just a new game.

I wonder if Harry's going to be slipping and sliding on the ice like Mario did in Super Mario Brothers 3.

I wonder if Harry's going to be slipping and sliding on the ice like Mario did in Super Mario Brothers 3. There is a Tanooki Suit. Take it? Yes/No [item noise] You got a Tanooki Suit. So, after much deliberation, reading of various views and input, and carefully considering every angle, I have come up with my official and final opinion on the matter, which can best be summed up as follows: Splunge. Actually, I have one more thing to add for now, another message for Climax Studios: Attention Climax! There are to be no - I repeat, NO - "sexy nurse" enemies in Shattered Memories. The only sexy nurse in Silent Hill 1 is Lisa Garland. Also, if you attempt to squeeze in Pyramid Head or any other big, masked/helmeted stalker guy with a huge blade-type weapon, we will hunt you all down and you will suffer.

Well people are complaining about the changes and all, but you want to know something that would be a good change? the start where Cybil leaves Harry to fend for himself. I mean it's the most stupid decision I've seen in a game. I tell you if in this game Cybil does that to me again I will kill her........again!

... Actually, I have one more thing to add for now, another message for Climax Studios: Attention Climax! There are to be no - I repeat, NO - "sexy nurse" enemies in Shattered Memories. The only sexy nurse in Silent Hill 1 is Lisa Garland. Also, if you attempt to squeeze in Pyramid Head or any other big, masked/helmeted stalker guy with a huge blade-type weapon, we will hunt you all down and you will suffer. with this 'Psych Profile' being done at the start/during the game, and the initial preview seemed to suggest the enemies you face in the game will be based on this, we could see some form of 'sexy' enemy or PH based character in the game should you make the right selections. In the IGN images, theres one that looks like a 'Sexy' Cybil. The original scans we saw had a Cybil dressed up in a winter uniform, but the new ones look more like ... well a stripper 'cop'. I'm actualy looking forward to the game based on the the new information. I think if were able to just remove the fact its a remake/re-imagining of the first game, and look at it from a different angle, we could be quite happy with the game. ... right.
