[From the shacknews.com article] For instance, rather than using text to inform the player whether a door is locked, or what Harry thinks about a particular picture frame, this is information is now entirely conveyed through narration. If you point your flashlight at a picture, Harry will pipe up with an audio-based quip. ---- That sounds like it might get a little annoying. I was always fine with the text. Actually, I always wanted that in an SH. Accompanied with subtitles, of course.

Ok, after reading everything in here about the game: There are cool ideas, but I'm with the people who said they'd love playing a game like this... only if it weren't SH1. What this tells me is this: Double Helix and Climax showed they have NOT the creative minds necessary to make a GOOD Silent Hill game. All they did was recycle a LOT of the elements that made the original game series good, and in doing so, made them not only kinda boring (same ol'), but stripped them of the bizarre misterious atmosphere of the first games (when I saw those bloody death and torture scenes in Silent Hill: Homecoming that screamed "AMERICAN HORROR CINEMAAA", I cried a little inside. That didn't feel like the games I grew to love at all). With this, Climax shows once again their incapacity to create a fresh story. If before they heavily borrowed elements from SH2 and 1 (but at least made an OK game) now they just yelled "Screw it!". It feels cheap. They're not even TRYING anymore. I'm all for new things, but not like this. I'll probably give this game a try (not buy) since I'm a curious guy, and as a stand alone game completely ignoring the previous SH franchise it could work. But hell, I won't have hopes for a new "true" Silent Hill game until I hear the original team is coming back. I want the eerie feeling, that dream-like atmosphere, the disturbing-not-completely-relying-on-gross-elements monsters. The fresh stories. A Silent Hill game direction must be bold. This... this is just cowardice. Sorry for the rant. And yeah, I know I'm late on this.

They're probably reimagining SH1 as a filler game 'cause they think it will make them money. It probably will to so it's no surprise really.

the only thing i think they are doing wrong for this game is not allowing wepons. shure you dont dream of choping zoms up with a lazer in your dreams, but can we at least have a knife! i dont like the idea of NO COMBAT. even if they are putting flares into it to "slow down the creatures" thats still nothing compared to deffense more like a distraction. As for homecoming i thought....meh not scary. and it wasant it was jump at you horror(not horror in any sense of teh word, but that was ok with me! >_> silent hill is good but it cant twist us around for ever they need to alow bad scares so that the good ones are that much creepeir! No combat bad,the wii not that bad(at least i have it...phew).

Meh. I'll still buy it but i'm not even getting involved in the hype this time around; it's not worth my time and effort.
I just hope it has an ambulance ending. That's really the only plus point I can see with a SH remake/re-imagining whatever thing.

And how exactly is an ending that allows you to go all 'Grand Theft Auto' on the streets of silent hill any less ridiculous than the other changes made to this game?

This just looks...bad. I think the whole "no combat" thing really killed it for me.

Combat has always been a problem in SH games, i guess they figured they could avoid having to deal with it entirely. What's up with the cell phone? Nothing is supposed to work right in Silent Hill, are they TRYING to take away everything that made it original?
I mean, the puzzles have always been an annoyance to me, but the combat was kinda fun. So if they're taking out the combat to make it more puzzle based, this could get really old really fast. There's no fear in a puzzle, a puzzle won't scare you. Combat will. I wish they'd leave SH1 alone and come up with more new ideas, less of the cliche' cult junk they've driven into the ground. I want something more along the lines of SH2 you know? A story that could exist by itself.
