The PS3s that have died in this thread, and most that I've seen have actually been 60gb models. Keep in mind that starting with the 80gb model, a new, cooler running and quieter running fan was put into the machine. It does make some difference.

Ok... That scares me to no end. Now my fear is back. I can't afford a PS3 every couple years, let alone if it fries earlier than that. It's too expensive a machine... I can only have one. My PS2 got laser problems countless times, but it was a lot cheaper fixing it than getting another one. If that's not the case with the PS3, I think I'll have to pass this generation. That's pretty sad. T_T Oh please, you're just being paranoid. The new Slim is perfectly fine, and the last 80GB 'fat' models are just fine too. The BC models (the 60GB ones, mainly) have the largest failure rate, and even that is something under 4-5% from the total. Just get a Slim and you'll be fine.
