I never thought Heather was looking at anything special... it always seemed like she was just giving a last look to the dead God before setting out... And so I replayed it all just to see, and if you pay reaaaaally close attention to the perspective (namely, checking at all times where she is looking at when she falls to her knees), you can see she's just staring at where the god was by the time she turns her head.

Being the jerk I am, I don't really see there being a chance of a baby being reborn, much less from the incomplete god. With the ending where she decides to share with her knife, I'd say that what shows up when Heather/Cheryl look back is the Alessa critter you defeated not too long ago. It makes sense to me that Alessa never really dies off, always a part of Heather/Cheryl, and that seeing she could barely take out half a god, may have decided it'd be better off not risking her blundering into something far graver further down the road. If that includes taking out a possible hinderance, then bye-bye, Douglas.
With the "good" ending, who knows? Maybe it was Harry, maybe a final glance at the manifestation of her legacy, or simple theatrics to make up for the three seconds she cried for Harry. Any guess on this would have me going for a last grim farewell before popping in to scare the wounded detective. She knows that the garbage is going to be following her in some form, but for now she's got some time for collecting herself.
