I interviewed Jeremy Blaustein, translator for sh2,3 and 4, mostly about SH2. There's been debated elsewhere regarding Angela and her past (this is dealt with in the article posted on igotaletter.com also) and Pyramid Head vs. mannequin scene and whether these involve sexual violence or just violence/abuse. What I liked about what he said was that the creators didn't intend the game to be picked apart so much, and that the internal logic people are looking for may not actually exist, since they didn't think it through to that extent. (I.e, PH raping mannequins is there to be disturbing and to quote from Blue velvet, not because it literally directly relates to James and Mary). I wil discuss this more in the podcast because I didn't want to go off on too many tangents in the article. Also, he laments the way that many fans are very literal minded, when this is a very symbolic game relying on atmosphere and subtlety in places. alchemillahospital.net/jeremy-blaustein-on-silent-hill-2/

Nice. Funny how he seems to kind of brush aside SH:3. He seems like a nice guy.

Very interesting! I also lament the dominance of mindless shooters!
It appears that over-analyzing has been our downfall, looking for answers that didn't exist in the first place.
As for the delivery of the subject matter, I tough Silent Hill 2 delivered the plot well without beating you over the head with it. Silent Hill Hill tried very hard with leaving the player with the Cliff Notes of the first game's plot as well as a scene explaining it. While Silent Hill 4 had a guy hanging from an ceiling explaining the story to you... just in case you missed every journal page left lying around the apartment.

Silly Vio, without our over-analyzing, what do we have left? And you know, maybe all that digging deeper into the story is a projection of our own internal unrest. Hm. I'm going to go think about that..
