Guys are pretty dead pan, but i got a few giggles from the other world comments and the 'smoke monster' stuff. Hey, coming in October. Did we know that?

I sure don't recall knowing about this October business. And that smoke monster of theirs, I'm hoping I'm not the only one to immediately connect it to the red light in SH:3. Because. You know. It totally did. All around, this game really is looking nice. I haven't seen any pictures of monsters yet, though, only those ghost/zombie folk and that mystery creature. My fingers are crossed that there's going to be a bit more variety, there. There HAS to be more than dead people.

It would be less of a rip off if they put the smoke monster in the Borley Haunted Mansion but what do I care since this is a console only release...
Sour graping aside, it really does look sweet

It's looking really good. This is the most excited I've been for an upcoming SH game in a while.

The only demo I've seen yet is the one where a guy is fighting the banshees... And that guy really didn't know how to play, it made the game look awful there, hahaha. I'll take a look at this. ----- Not bad. I'd prefer if the button prompts were smaller though. Also, is it me or none of the current gen SH games look any better than SH3 and 4? Some effects are a bit better, mostly with lightning, but other than that... SH3 models were great, SH4's weren't much different either. The environments looked as great as most games nowadays, and even the effects were awesome, like the walls in 3. Texture resolution is the only improvement I've noticed together with a bit more detail in environments, like buildings exteriors. But it's almost unnoticeable. Both Homecoming and Downpour's character models don't look better at all, also. I actually thought they looked a bit worse. I don't know if it's the new games fault, or it just shows how great the PS2 games were visually...

Damn, looks quite great to me. Really looking forward to this.
Downpour's character models actually look quite a bit better than 3 and 4s if you go back and compare them...because I just did. Still, for PS2 games, they looked fantastic.

Honestly, I always found it odd that thanks to Silent Hill 3, a lot of games hardly impress me.
It's kind of sad a game released in 2003 makes me still feel 'meh' about games in 2011.
Don't get me wrong either, I know a lot of games 'look' better. But I just don't feel that 'wow' feel I used to get with SH3.
There's still tons of parts in that game that make me feel that way too. Most games just bore me now in pretty much all respects. Too redundant, too 'safe' to try anything new.
I'm pretty confident about Downpour though. I think they'll pull through with some amazing visuals.

Hmm... The Downpour characters look a bit more "blocky" to me than the ones in SH3. The resolution is higher though. Maybe their design is just not as pleasant to me. I mean, SH3 character design and use of colors were pretty good. Maybe is just a case of the final product "looking" more appealing to me, even though the models itself have less polygons. After all, polygon count and high-res textures are not enough.
Sill, it's not "bad". It's just... underwhelming. The characters definitely look more bland and generic than James, Maria, Heather, Vincent, etc. These characters feel like they could be in any modern western game, even a shooter. There was something different about the older SH characters... As I said, it might just be the art style and choices, I don't know.

Honestly I think graphics in general have gotten worse. I know that HD is "technically" supposed to me better, but stylistically it makes a lot of things look bad to me.

Let's not forget the CG renders that put SquareEnix to shame. This new one looks interesting though. HOORAY FOR FIXED CAMERA ANGLES! We still have control in open areas as well. I like the unique Otherworld transition too. Very, very nice.

This is looking very promising. I'm incredibly pleased they've brought back fixed camera angles. It's something I've been missing since Origins.

Well this doesn't really have much to do directly with graphical design so much as art direction. As a whole though, some games really can show you the brilliance of HD graphics. Of recent memory Battlefield 3 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Looking at those images from Downpour, I get the impression that they need more grit.
