This here's a fanfic I wrote back in the summer of my freshman year of high school. It's a sequel to SH1 -basically my reimagining of SH3. SH0 and SH1 are canon in this story. My original work has trumped my care of this over the years, but it's still pretty good. I explored more of Silent Hill with Heather in this one. She's more hands-on with her memories and past-lives. Author's note at the end with Latin translations for those of you who can't stand not knowing the standalone Latin phrases -not terribly vital to understanding what's going on though. I'll be updating this thread with sketches of various characters and monsters and some of my notes. If anyone has any questions regarding where I got the idea for something or the symbolism behind anything (there's something on almost every page) feel free to ask. I'd be more than happy to share. The link keeps getting screwed up. PM me with a email address you use and I'll email it to you. I also recommend downloading this font. Simply right click and hit install once it's downloaded. You'll be able to see my pretty title. lol www.dafont.com/search.php?psize=m&q=silent+hell+of+cheryl

I'll start off with the heroine of our story: Heather/Cheryl I knew from the get-go I wanted her to have black hair. She seemed more... Alessa(ish) to me that way. (I kept the original Heather's hairstyle though.) All the plot's about really is Heather discovering she is Alessa. So I figured this was a nice and simple way to allude to that (that and I prefer the black hair to the blonde as an asthetic preference, but whatever.) The outfit underwent a few small revisions. At first, the jacket was extremely plain and lacking in any particular flair, but I accented it with a sky blue scarf. I ended up not likeing the scarf idea after awhile because it was just flat out unnecessary and didn't really fit Heather's character. I don't take Heather for the type to wear scarves for the sake of looking pretty. I ended up modeling her jacket after one I own in the end for a realistic touch -though mine has sleeves. As far as the silhouette -the shirt, jacket, and skirt with boots -that was actually inspired by Rose from the Silent Hill movie. I didn't realize it until after I came up with the design, but it ended up matching perfectly so I'm going with that. I ended up falling back on the it after a few failed sketches. I just couldn't beat the basic design. It suits her, I think. The color scheme was also quite different from what's been previously seen. I liked the blue because blue is strong, courageous, honorable, and loyal -the color of a hero. On roses it means mystery or intrigue. When attributed to water I think of depth and endless structure masked behind the veil of a shimmering surface sometimes turbulent -the turbulence alluding to me making her a gemini. I considered making her a water sign, but the air sign seemed to fit best. The black alludes to many of the same things, but also the darker side as well. Black is a repellent. It keeps everything else at bay with its stillness. It gives off zero energy and people become lost in it. Eventually the black feels like it's repelling your own "looking force", if you will, back at you. Aside from that... Heather looks damn good in black. As for the eyes being blue... well I could've made them brown to fit Cheryl better, but I wanted eyes that pierced and were vibrant and full of mystery. The black hair, blue eyes combo really helped pull it off in giving her a mysterious edge that's apparent in her appearance. I'm quite proud of the look despite its simplicity. Sometimes simple works best.

Not to rain on your parade but as an artist, I feel like your anatomy needs some help. If you want to give Heather some justice, why not study the "You're Not Here" video? Which is pretty much everything you need to know to make her shine. Take some screen captures and work from there
On the plus side, I see that you pay attention to detail and that will pay off in the long run. Honestly, I covet your signature. To date my tag has nothing on yours

lol Thank you on the sig. Actually, though, I took some creative liberties with her physique. I figured a tighter body would make more sense given the ridiculous things she does later in the story -if that's what you meant. As far as human anatomy (period) I'm self-taught so I've formed a few bad habits over the years. Wait until you see my old sketches... anatomically impossible... but whatever. It's clear what you're looking at, minus the Cherubs of the Damned sketch, but... meh. That took like fifteen minutes anyway.
Odds are I won't be doing much more with SHEP sketches as I'm currently much more invested in personal works. I'd be honored if you or anyone else were willing to do something with my Heather design though.
Edit: I see what you mean. I've done enough anatomically correct works since Heather to notice. Wow... yeah, I might redo her.

My Silent Hill playlist! The Silent Hill music helped in my writing immensely. It was easy to put myself into the world and feel what I was trying to convey. It's much easier to write about how you feel when you're actually experiencing it at the moment you're writing it. So I made a Silent Hill playist to aid in my "method writing." That and my morning ritual of apple crisp bars with scrambled eggs, ketchup, and tea (usually green.) At night I just had tea. Method works man.
Girl Gone -by The Upbeats - album is Nobody's Out There The rest are Akira Yamaoka -minus the two or three from the movie. Rain of Brass Petals - Three Voices Edit You're Not Here Let Me Out Fading Illusion In Me Room of Angel Your Rain Shot Down in Flames (actually can play this one on my guitar to a recognizable degree lol) I Want Love (Studio Mix) Waiting... For You Always On My Mind When You're Gone Acceptance Hell Frozen Rain (LOVE this song -hum it more than any other) Home (movie alert!) Entrenching Ashes (movie alert!) Monster Daddy (monster theme alert -foreshadowing important monster icon whoooooo) A Safe Place (save theme, but I made it Valtiel's theme) Raw Power Butcher Battle Town of Mysteries (used this one frequently) Silent Hill (Piano Ver.) Flauros Realization Watched by the Blade Embalmed in Memory (the riff for this is very much win) Deep Thought Rediscovery Beyond this Realm Still More Mysteries Theme of Sabre Dance (this one grew on me) Not Tomorrow IV Murder Song 'S' (theme song of another iconic monster... whooiiiooooo lol -NOT an alien) Behind the Wall of Sleep Snowblind (one of my favs as far as ambience goes -feel free to guess where this one helped out) The Healer (cool beat) Acid Horse Underworld IV (i have two of these in my playlist for some reason... that would explain a lot...) Don't Abuse Me Not Tomorrow III Wrong Is Right Evil Appetite Meltdown She (uber awesome song) Tears of... (one of my favs -really captures the sorrow of the games imo) Fear of the Dark (supercool song, but the volume's a tad too low for a four star) Hear Nothing Claw Finger Silent Hill Silent Circus (should be fairly obvious where this one comes in handy) The Suicidal Clock Chime Save Before You Quit (I absolutely love the piano riff on this one) Life (kicakass song -I believe it was unreleased or limited edition or something) Flower Crown of Poppy (first otherworld switch after the cell phone goes bonkers) Rain of Brass Petals Prayer Never Forgive Me, Never Forget Me Maternal Heart Innocent Moon A Stray Child Promise Theme of Luara (Reprise) (this song kicks ass) Promise (Reprise) Theme of Luara (ditto the last one) Strange Decor Abandoned Streets Searching the Past Childish Thoughts Creeping Distress Hostility Snow Driven Hibernation Devil's Laughter Lost Truth Angel's Scream Another Warm Body Forsaken Lullaby Raw Shock Lives Wasted Away Blackest Friday Endless Depths Different Persons Ice
Writing this story was pretty fun. Writing stories usually is when you invest yourself and put yourself in it. I went into a funk the summer and fall I initially worked on it. I jumped whenever my dog or mother came into the room because I blocked out all sound with my uber aweseome headphones and could only hear the music and the only light that came in were the lamp posts on the trail shining through the giant windows we had in the sunroom. (God I miss that sunroom... cries....)

I figure it's a good time to share what was goin' through my head with Claudia's redesign... I didn't design it! Konami did! I found a press release package several years ago that had early Claudia concept sketches -thanks to SHF. I used my favorite of them as the design here. I was doing the same story, but I wanted some things to be different because otherwise... we'd might as well play the game. There'd be no point if it was exactly the same. The only reason I left in some of the dialogues is for nostalgia's sake or the sequence simply being too memorable to get rid of -such as the birthday call or Douglas aiming his gun at Heather. Claudia's design was blah though. Claudia as a character felt iconic, but not so much her attire. It always kinda bored me so it's a stylistic change more than anything, but a nice change of pace in the end -keeps things fresh. I decided on this one because, initially, I loved it when I saw it. I thought it would've been amazing if it made the final cut. She actually looks her age in the sketch as well. She looks far older than she actually is. She's really younger than Alessa would've been at the time SH3 takes place, so figured the blonde hair made a little more sense. As far the eyebrows thing... I didn't even go there. Though I will say some blondes with blonde eyebrows... it's hard to discern their eybrows anyway. So I figured I could get away with that one. Not mentioning something in a story leaves it to the reader's imagination anyway. Aside from the blonde hair and attire, Claudia looks exactly the same as she does in the game (in the story.) So when I decided on adding Claudia to the story, I thought of this design and ended up using it. I still found myself imagining the blue attire during the Silent Hill scenes though, so original associations seldom die, but ultimately, it's up to the reader as to what they want to imagine. On the topic of changing things up -pay attention to Valtiel throughout the story. Really see if I changed his role before thinking his actions strange. Vincent on the other hand... I wanted to take him a few steps overboard. He always seemed like the guy who was always teetering over the line of being whackjob. He was undoubtedly crazy in SH3. I wanted to use his personality to mold a new figure that was actually a little more prominent in this story. I stuck to Vincent as best I could, but in the end I wanted him to evolve which will be apparent at the end of the story. Dahlia's a deus ex machina. I'm not gonna give any grand explanation there. She's simply a cog in Silent Hill's machine that keeps things moving.

Today's contribution... Azrael! (Theme song is Monster Daddy) WARNIN' THAR BE PLOT TWIST SPOILERS! Azrael was originally going to be Pyramid Head. I liked the idea from the first movie of Pyramid Head being a sort of monster of judgement. After awhile though... I realized Pyramid Head was much cooler unprofaned by staying exclusive to James. The psychological manifestation became much more deep and satisfying when I redesigned the "big guy" from ground up. The Butcher, though similar to Pyramid Head, didn't share his exact design, so I knew I wanted something different, but I also knew I still wanted him to be a servant to God like Valtiel. So Valtiel actually influenced his design more than Pyramid Head in the end. The most obvious example of this would be the Seal of Metatron they both share on their shoulders. Given Pyramid Head had a mind-boggling huge knife (aptly named The Great Knife) and a huge spear on par with it, The Butcher had The Great Cleaver... I wanted (and needed) something completely different. It didn't take long fortunately. After drawing from the backstory I made for him when he was still Pyramid Head, I was able to create a new design which suited the backstory and represented Heather much better. Back when God was still alive there were a group of four sinners who were to be damned for their crimes by God. In earnest, they plead forgiveness and eternal loyalty in exchange for mercy despite the atrocities they'd committed. God forgave them for their change of heart, but held true to the deal and punished them with the helmets they now wear. (The helmet is bolted into their skull in six places btw.) They became God's strong arm against those who would raise their sword against Her. In this way, they served until God died and they were resurrected with God's awakening during the current plotline. The angel of judgement role is alluded to during the Alchemilla scene when he saves Heather from the demon nurses. The helmet on the left side wasn't always like that. The right side with the nice slick oily shine is what the entire helmet looked like when God cursed them with it. The left side became that way to show the corruption of Alessa back in SH0 and how that corruption has festered since. The right side remained intact due to the seperation of her soul so the helmet from the front view represents the two sides of Alessa. The the hairs in the back represent Alessa and God in their forms by color code. Red, white, black, yellow, blue, grey. God, Alessa, SH0 Ghost Alessa (Dark Alessa,) Cheryl, Heather, Echo of the Past (Silent Hill's Imagined Heather.) The crown represents God being the first and the mightiest of the incarnations with the ultimate binding of body and soul as the two brackets that protrude from it below represent the physical and spiritual sides of Alessa and her incarnations as two seperate forces as that perfect union doesn't occur until the end of the story. His overall appearance had to be ragged to reflect the God's state of mind while the Otherworld exists however. So Azrael's being is subject to God's state of mind. There still needed to be a reminder that he was still to serve God though, so I had the axe fused to his hand so he can never let go of his duty -none of them can let go of their duty. Although trivial, the axe is roughly equal to Heather's height. I figured there would be a cool connection there, but couldn't come up with anything significant. The actual sketches in my binder reflect his however. I put Heather around 5'4" - 5'6". Azrael is much larger, by comparison, and adds to the fear factor when she doesn't know he's an ally early on. He's scary in a way none of the other monsters really are which was what I was going for. If you can believe it, though, Azrael isn't Heather's Pyramid Head or Butcher. It's Nameless, the creature frequently referred to as Stalker or Hunter. I'll get to him later.

Has anyone read it? Some feedback would be appreciated. It's kinda pointless to keep updating the thread if no one cares.

I haven't finished it yet, but I have been reading it, and I am enjoying it so far. It deviates from the original text to leave it unpredictable, which is good. You're not just rehashing the game.
I also thought the characterization remained true to the original games. You went more in depth with the characters, fleshing them out more than the games did and still managing to keep their original characteristics.
You put a lot of effort into this, and it deserves to be read.
