I've been thinking about The Dark Knight Rises for awhile and I'm really excited for it. (So hitting up IMAX for it.) The Batman movies from Tim Burton to the animated ones like Mask of the Phantasm to Christopher Nolan... discuss!
The Dark Knight Rises is set for release summer of next year (if memory serves.)

They say 'The Dark Knight Rises' will be Christopher Nolan's last batman film. Does that mean they will get a new director or will they reboot the franchise again? I hope they won't reboot, that should only be reserved when an previous film canon has gone to shit (like the 'Batman and Robin' film, There just was nowhere to go with the story after that)
It would be like the new Spider-man film coming up, that didn't need a reboot. the new film doesn't look that different from the last three save for different actors.

^ They are going to reboot I think, in fact I believe they're already planning on it. I think the new movies will have a different style though. No sense in doing Nolan's thing again.
As for Spider-Man, the third movie was considered to be crap (Although SM3 is actually one of my favorite movies) so that's why they're rebooting. But a lot of people still think it's stupid. I like Spider-Man, so I'll go see it, I just hope it's not like the post-Ultimate Spider-Man games where they make a new crappy one every year.
As for the Batman movies, my fave to least fave: The Dark Knight (my 2nd favorite super movie after SM3 and one of my favorite movies period) Batman Begins (in some ways almost as good as the dark knight) Batman Forever (it was a pile of crap, but it was more fun to me than any of the other old movies) Batman: The Movie (ahh, simpler times) Batman Returns (liked the villins way better than the first Tim Burton one) Batman (hated the Joker, to me it's almost as bad as Batman and Robin) Batman and Robin (like eating at Taco Bell, it's not so much that it wasn't enjoyable, it's just that I felt ill for the rest of the day)

To be fair, the new Spider-Man movie seems quite different from the last ones. Sam Raimi movie's were OK, but I never found them that amazing. Also, Green Goblin was ridiculous (that power ranger suit!), and P.Parker didn't have the sense of humour he has in other media. But I think Raimi put the movies in a position that made a reboot necessary. Important characters killed, Peter and Mary Jane's relationship made too convoluted/in an akward position, the screwed up mythos with Sandman, etc. I can't see anything really good going on after the third movie. The new one is clearly going into a different direction, and I've read reports of people from... comic-con, I think, that said this Spider is more similar to the original with his humour, and there are good practical effects, etc. I understand people being skeptic, and I think this movie will have a tough time because fans of Raimi's version will try to boycot it, and the general public will find the idea weird or might be just a bit tired of Spidey. But I'm not seeing anything bad yet. The "emo" trailer seems to be just that. A trailer. Also, emo is so abused it lost it's meaning already. I'm intrigued. I want to see if this will bomb or be able to overcome the critiscism. ----- Now about Batman. The overall critiscism and fanboy reaction has been quite negative, and pretty sad, because it has been from pure especulation. I decided to leave the internet for a while, until the first trailer (or possible viral marketing). Everything sucks on the internet. And BB and TDK are shit now. :/

The problem with Spiderman 3 is that it had everything going for it. Harry found out Peter was Spiderman and he had murder in his eyes in SM2. The black goo was going to turn Peter into his own worst enemy. Venom was going to be in the movie. Peter was having issues with Mary Jane. Peter killed a man who wasn't his uncle's killer. Oh, and a $500,000.00 budget. That's the stuff of trilogy dreams right there. (COMPLETELY EFFED UP!) When I watched this -this adressed all the issues I had with the movie.
The Mr. Freeze video gave me my lol fix for the day.

While I actually like Nolan's Batman films, and I even like both the '89 Bat film as well as Batman Returns, I just have such a hard time really, really getting into these movies.
I'm a DIEHARD Batman fan. But the problem is none of the movies have EVER really even come close ot capturing the real character of Batman. The Dark Knight is a great example. The movie was great, very entertaining, but Batman was shit in it. The drama around him and the Joker were what made the film great.
See but here's the thing with the Joker in TDK. While Leger's performance was stellar, this isn't the Joker. Way, way way too serious. (Haha, get it! Why so serious!?) But seriously (lol), at least in the '89 Burton film the Joker was portrayed much more like how he is as a character.
I try to just pretend every other Batman movie as well as the corny ass oldschool tv show starring Adam West don't even exist...
Regardless, yeah I'm excited for The Dark Knight Rises. It looks and sounds good. I'm sure I'll love it. But this still isn't the Batman I love and idolize.
Most of the Batman animated films are pretty good though. I saw Under the Red Hood earlier this year and was absolutely blown away by it. ESPECIALLY since it didn't feature Kevin Conroy as Batman, which is like a mortal sin for me. I still absolutely loved it to death. Gotham Knights was good in parts too. As a whole it was good, but parts of it were great.
However, as far as animation and films go for Batman, nothing will EVER beat the greatness that is Batman: The Animated Series. That show was so ahead of it's time, and even directly influenced some aspects of the actual canon in the comics as it went.
I know I'm a nerd, but none of the films will ever even come close to living up the comic books, and that's what I dislike about the films. Batman is never really that cool in them, and he hardly ever is portrayed as a brilliant detective, almost always just shown as a brooding badass.
Not just the detective angle, but also how it's never really shown how tormented he really is mentally, nearly the verge of insanity at times.
Oh, and while we're at it. For those who fondly remember the old NES game based off the first Burton Batman film...

I find Bane's appearance in the upcomming film interesting. I read up somewhere that in the orginal comics, bane broke Batman's spinal cord. So I wonder if this truely is the last Nolan film, will the same fate happen to Nolan's batman? Would be a dramatic way to end Batman's adventures

Would be a dramatic way to end Batman's adventures He did, but it most certainly didn't finish Batman's career. In his place at the time Azrael took over. While Bruce was healing and recuperating, Azrael was going apeshit on the criminals using lethal force or at least coming close to it. Eventually Bruce stepped back in. His recovery time being sped up through some paranormal junk. Azrael had tarnished the hell out of the Batman name with his violence, and it took Batman some time to regain the trust of the police and his fellow heroes. The comic arc this is featured in is called Batman: Knightfall.

Well yeah I knew that wasn't the end of Batman in the comics, the fans woulden't of taken that very well. I am just saying it might be an interesting way to end Nolan's films as well as a slight nod to that story.
Talking of which, in the teaser Gorden doesn't look so well himself. Do we know why he is in hospital?

I'm not much for American comics. I've been that way since I was around 11-12. I just don't really read them.
Though, that's not to say I won't. There's some stories I'm really interested in, including some Batman graphic novels. Some of them sound sooooo damn good I can't pass them up. Probably borrow the ones my friend has since he's a huge Batman geek.
So I don't really jump up and down for superhero movies often. But holy crap I love the hell out of Nolan's Batman movies. The Dark Knight to me is one of the best movies ever made. I even made sure I seen it the Imax in West Edmonton Mall when I had the chance.
I'm a sucker for darker, grittier stuff so it blew me away. I can't even begin to express how much I look forward to the next movie. While I know it's highly unlikely another one will be made by him or Bale even wanting to play Batman again, but I do pray to the great penguin lords he does another one some day.
As for the Spiderman movies, I'm painfully bored with the idea of rebooting it. I enjoyed the first couple movies for what they were worth. I was really excited for Venom but I never seen the third one. I just had a vibe about the movie before it came out and everyone I knew confirmed it was shite.
Cool though you say it's one of your favorite movies Dreggnog. Intrigues me to maybe give it a chance sometime.
I'm not even good with watching movies as it is though. I watch a movie maybe once or twice a month~ unless it's a good horror movie then I'm suddenly all gung-ho about it.

Eh, I forgot to comment on Spiderman. I liked the first movie a lot actually. The second one was so-so, nothing fantastic. The third one all but killed any hope of a good new film for me. It was that fucking bad for me. After the third one, even though it has pretty much ZERO attachment to this new reboot film, I just can't find myself caring anymore.
I used to be a HUUUUGE Marvel fan when I was younger too. I'm not anymore. The writing in the major Marvel comics these past few years has been absolute shit. I did like The Runaways though. There are still Marvel characters I really like, but as a whole I much prefer DC.

I enjoyed Raimi's first two spider-man films at first, but i think they've aged fairly badly, and after reading some spider-man comics these past few years, i realised they never seemed to get the characters right. And they relied too heavily on CGI. I'm looking forward to the new Spider-man series of films, I'm actually looking forward to it more then i am Dark Knight Rises, because i'm interested to see where the new team take things. Really want to see the footage they showed off at Comic con, but guess i'll have to wait till it hits the big screen.
There's far too much information being leaked about the Dark Knight rises on the internet. Its my own fault for checking out Film blogs. I'll see the film when it hits, but i'm keeping my expectations low. Enjoyed Nolans other films, and at the time, i enjoyed the other movies aswell. but that speaks for the time and the age i was at when released. But i think Batman will always be to me, the DC Animated universe, particularly the animated series and Batman beyond.

I feel like Spider-Man 2 didn't age well, but that's because I loved the third movie. To me, the first movie had the best character stuff. Going back, the Peter/Mary conversations in the second movie are just awkward ripoffs of the ones in the first movie. However, the action in the second movie was cooler than in the first. But them SM3 had some of the best action I've ever seen in anything (the only thing that beats it for me is Noein). So SM2 to me didn't really do character or action stuff the best in the movies. When I go back to it, I only really enjoy the still awesome train sequence.
I own the first two seasons of Batman: The Animated Series. Bought it because IGN called it the second best animated show ever, and as an animation lover I had to check it out. I think it's okay, not amazing. Sometimes the stories are interesting, even though they almost never last more than an episode, and the music was very good. I'd say I like it better than any non-Nolan Batman movie.

And they relied too heavily on CGI. Well of course there was alot of CGI, the film is about a guy that webslings around a city and climb buildings, making a film about that in the early 2000s without using alot of CGI would of been difficult. I am still not convinced that the new films are going to be that different, one of the trailers had an scene from Spider-man's point of view, it looked entirely CGI to me, it's just that it's better CGI. I am surprised that the Riddler didn't make The dark Knight Rises, I thought he would of suited Nolan's universe more than Catwoman and Bane. I could see the plot working pretty well, The Riddler an mysterious unseen criminal giving batman challenges to solve within an time limit or innocents will die, not orginal but Nolan could of made it work. Would of at least allowed Batman use his thinking cap a bit more.
