I also liked this game better than Homecoming. The breakable weapons thing didn't bother me at all, I always had more than enough. Plus you don't even need weapons when you can punch like that.

Yeah, true that you always had more than enough, and that's why it was tolerable, but still.. it's like, you're in the middle of fighting a nurse and your stupid hammer breaks! how the hell does that happen? If it's a nurse you can just punch her out, but still, irritating.
The projectile toasters just made it all worthwhile though. That and the unlockables.

Origins is one of my favorites in the series. I don't get the hate either. I didn't mind the breakable weapons thing. It made the game more realistic and challenging.
I had to borrow a PS2 to play it and had to give it back after awhile. I'm really missing it and wish they'd release it for PC.

Sometimes it was more realistic, but I don't think my katana would've broken on any monster.

Origins is my least favourite of the games I never even wanted to play it a second time where the other games I'll play over and over. Just didn't do much for me :/

Sometimes it was more realistic, but I don't think my katana would've broken on any monster. Exactly. I see what they were going for, and I can respect that, but I still think it was a failure, this breakable weapons thing. I mean, what? Was the katana made of plastic? As for replay value, I hadn't played it in a while, but sometimes I do pick it up and play a bit, especially now that I have the unlockable weapons and costumes and stuff. This was the first SH in a while that I lost sleep over when I got it! First day I stayed up all night playing it and swearing at the game. My roommate probably wanted to murder me. I play it more than I play sh3 or sh4, anyway.

I mean, what? Was the katana made of plastic? What, swords can't EVER break? Remember, this is Silent Hill. Normal rules don't necessarily apply.

Ha, well, I didn't say it could NEVER break, I said I find it unlikely that with a few slashes, it's suddenly completely unusable and you have to throw it away.
Still, one must remember that this is a town where you can fit 4 guns, a shovel, twenty toasters, some IV stands, and a chainsaw in your back pocket.

Lol, yeah I always have wondered where James stuck that chainsaw in SH2. Ouch!! What about the Great Knife? LOL. It was also too funny when he needs to put all of the items in the cupboard before the lift in the hotel. Took a while. xD But seriously, maybe the katanas in SH0 were rusty. :?

Took a while. xD Always reminds me of the scene in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome when Mel Gibson is unloading a TON of weaponry and everyone is just staring at him in amazement, probably wondering where the heck he was keeping it all. They tried to do something similar for Elizabeth in POTC3, but I didn't find it quite as funny for some reason. Probably because I just felt like it was a MMBT rip off. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;D

Well, overall I liked Origins. I just wished that they would have focused more on Travis' story than on Alessa (again). I mean, now we got three out of five games that are about the whole cult/Alessa thing (haven't played Homecoming yet, so I have no idea about that one. Only counting SH1, 2, 3, 4 and Origins here). And then Origins didn't even really tell us anything that we didn't already know about Alessa and the cult. It kind of felt like playing SH1 again, but with a different main character, minus Cheryl.

Yeah that too, and there was so much hype before it came out that we we going to find out all this great stuff, have all these questions answered, you know. And then you play it and don't actually learn anything at all about the characters. I grew to like Travis after a while, but it would've been easier to like him as a character with a bit more in the way of details on him. The greatest disappointment for me was probably the not learning anything new part, because I thought that was the whole point of having a prequel.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. I mean, it did seem to flesh things out with the Alessa/Cult thing just a bit more, and it was nice to see it play out as it happened at that time, but overall there really was nothing new there. I'd like to see future games stick with the story of the main characters. I certainly don't mind references to Alessa and the cult, as they are such a huge part of Silent Hill, but I think we know enough about that story that we really don't need to have another game focus on it.

I feel the opposite. I thought the game's story was 75% Travis, and only 25% about Alessa. What disappointed me about SH0 was that they kept saying that we would learn all this new stuff about Alessa, or it would expand upon it.
We learned that Alessa can levitate, was powerful even at age seven, and umm...err...yeah that's about it.
I was hoping we would have learned a little bit more about her home life (Yes she was abused, but I'm sure that Dahlia didn't beat her daughter 24/7); who her father was; who she first killed with her powers.
Stuff like that.
