Imperial Armor Volume 6 - Siege of Vraks part II. Love me some historical battle books, but Sci-Fi battle books? Oh yes please.
And 100 Bullets (soon to be coming to an end :-( )

The life of Riley by Joanna Nadin. It's one of those teenage diary style books.

Neuromancer. Some guy that comes into my coffee shop gave it to me to read. Pretty good so far. I don't read to much SF really but we will see how it goes. I'm much bigger into horror. I went to this crazy bookstore the other day and they had over 100,000 used and rare books! I picked up a 1946 copy of Algernon Blackwood's "The Doll and One Other" for $30. The place was a gold mine!

Yeah, there's a lot of weird future slang and it's written in kind of a confusing way. I think I'm getting the gist but yes, some is alluding me.

Dune - Frank Herbert
Regarding Gibson's books, he does use quite a bit of his own slang early on, but it tends to be less as the books progress. About the best way to think of them is as "alternate present" books. Like with his explanation of the web as "the matrix" in 1984. Or of memes and geolocation in 2003.

Halfway through Undiscovered Country by Lin Enger.
Its ho-hum. A reworking of Hamlet. Its written by a local Minnesota author and takes place in northern Minnesota when the main characters father is killed but everyone thinks its a suicide

Just finished The Watchmen. Someone gave it to me. Now I can go watch the movie. The book was excellent! Also just about to start reading Thomas Ligotti's "Songs of a Dead Dreamer". Can't wait!

lemex: You picked one of my favorites! The character I'm playing in Ten Castes was based upon CDW. Have you sussed who killed Joseph Curwen the first time? Note that CDW ends up in Arkham Asylum. Not the pussy one, but the REAL one. In the next cell was someone named Marsh, but not the Penguin. I applaud your choice to read a better grade of literature as opposed to the kiddie menu

Alx, you are beginning to disappoint. By the "kiddie menu" comment it sounds like you either think that the majority of other posters in this thread read childrens books, or that you had thought lemex to be prone to reading childrens books rather than "grown up" literature. If this is just about your beef over Batman then cease now please. You still clearly haven't even touched Serious house (which, if you bought it for a child would warrant severe social services intervention as it is very much for mature readers only) and therefore haven't bothered to research your argument in the slightest anyway.

I cleared out of the Batman game thread after you rebuked me there without even a reply. I've never insulted Lemex before and in this instance I praised his choice so I don't see how that could be construed as a personal attack. I don't have an issue with Batman per se but anyone who molests the work of HPL is on my list. Steven King is a much larger offender and you'll notice I've had nothing kind to say about his work either (nor was I taken to task for it) if only DC would've called it Gotham Asylum, then I would have no problems. I have read it, the art was excellent but the story seemed weak to me. I have no idea what Serious House is but if you think it is every bit as hardcore as HPL, I will check it out. If it is then I will post a retraction and if not I will keep it to myself
It seems that your real issue is my reference to the DC works as the 'kiddie menu' and I'll admit that the term is offensive. I deliberately used it because I am offended. IMHO, most of those who use the Lovecraft Mythos are not suited to the task. They're pretenders to the throne, boys trying to take on a man's job. And I have no problems calling them on it
Unfortunately there is no body of standards which can enforce a "You must be at least this talented to co-opt HPL" edict and even worse his work in the public domain. Any nimrod can take a crack at playing HPL without fear of repercussion which infuriates me. I've got a few like minded friends and we love to rake such offenders over the coals so perhaps I should save my venom for a more receptive audience
But before you let my views disappoint you, please recall that on the old forum that I never dissed you and am even less inclined to do so now that you've taken the initiative to build a new home for us... Even if SHF returns, I still plan to come here for as long as I am welcome
Which brings me to my last point- This is your house and I will respect your rules as a good guest should. I know we've differed on the Arkham thang and possibly the digital art thang but I've never felt disappointed by your viewpoints. They're equally valid but different from mine. Now that I've said my piece let me conclude by saying that I will try and swallow my bile in the future with regards to Batman's use of that property until I hear different from you...
