the silent hill movie was they greatest game to movie adaption ever. no arguments. i thought it was as good as silent hill on the big screen could get except.......there where a few things that really made me mad. The first one was lack of enemies. after the movie i was like "is that it!" in any of the games you fight at least 100 monsters in the movie SHE fought....around 5. second WHERE DID ALL OF THESE PEOPLE COME FROM cmon! don't simplify things just so other people can enjoy the movie....(that was for the people that wrote the script ;D ) also any one else bothered by PH's entrance? well i stood up in the theater and yelled "FAN SERVES!" Ph being in there really under minded SH2s grand opening with PH its like the necrophilia seen never happened . RANT OVER i hope i wasn't to blunt but cmon..... .

PLEASE USE NORMAL ENGLISH WHEN WRITING. JEEZ. Also, you can't expect 100+ monsters in a movie spanning 2 hours tops. The monsters are both story and gameplay elements in the game, but they are more side-effects in the movie than anything else. PH was silly, yes. Rant mostly acknowledged.

I think Pyramid Head and the many appearing humans are the least of the fans worries. The storyline was good yes but it made little sense in relation to the game, especially the ending. I was hoping the sequel would include James and Maria e.t.c. but it looks like it will be a far fetched continuation of the first one.

Sorry for not using proper english I was in a rush. Yea I do hope that james is in the second movie(if theres going to be one..). I still think one or two more monsters wouldve done the trick though. The ending wasant that bad just not really related to the game...

Most fans can't resist nitpicking, even if overall they really liked the movie. It's up to each individual to find something to nitpick most about.
The only problems I had with the movie were:
1. The dialogue. I still cringe every time I hear Sharon shout "Silent Hiiiiillll!"
2. The barbed wire scene towards the end. I thought that actually showing all that carnage was very un-Silent Hill. All the games (up to that point at least) would have found some way to imply what was going on without actually showing all the evisceration and whatnot.

Well if you don't care i don't care . The dialog wasn't THAT bad...... and yes i am nit picky . The final "boss fight" was OK they should have done less with the cheap American "chop up as much as possible for full effect" type thing. I did like the movie over all though just those few things. If any one else has anything to say please say it (as long as its not pointless!).

I don't mean to start curb stomping the movie or anything, but I disliked it. I found the dialog to be extremely unnatural, which takes you out of the movie and thus does not foster a mind of "suspended disbelief" which is paramount to a story like Silent Hill.
I also had a problem with the monsters. I liked the designs well enough, I just had a problem with a huge pile of nurses in one room acting in unison as if they were a performance group. I mean really?
The cult, which I will have to admit to never liking in the games, is unfortunately a hard thing to pull off without cliche after cliche flying out, such as: "Burn the witch" and speaking about "elders of my elders" and ridiculous lines like that. But I think with some good writing, it could be done.
Why not for that matter just leave the cult more mysterious? Perhaps they are all hooded and you don't get a good look at them? Aside from the ending, I found no real ambiguity that I have always enjoyed in the games.
I must also mention the "exposition scene" where the demon has to explain what happened to make sense of what is going on. Exposition is something, for the most part, steered clear of in movies, cause it is desirable to show instead of tell. I saw it as a weakness, but perhaps necessary with the script.
It wasn't totally bad however. I loved the art direction and set design! Absolutely beautiful! Definitely Silent Hill come alive. Sound seemed good, and of course the soundtrack was excellent. Not that anyone cares, but if I had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 I would give it a 2 or a 3. But that's just me.

For me that was one of the things I liked about the movie, considering that in the games even though different nurses were used to SH1 the SH2 nurses act very similar to those in the film. The way they walk, their head movements, it's pretty similar. Then again, hiring dancers to play the nurses will mean incorporating dance like movements.

@Crimson: Yeah, I'm with you on the art direction thing. If one likes nothing else about the movie, one must admit that visually it was pretty spot-on.
And pardon me, but reading your comment on "burn the witch!" just made me have to do this:
"Why do witches burn?" "Bec . . . Because they're made of . . . wood?" "So, logically," "If she . . . weighs . . . the same as a duck . . . she's . . . made of wood." "And therefore," "A WITCH!"

Snork!!! I love that movie! As for the SH movie, I loved it. Of course, I'd never played the games before seeing it, so I had nothing to compare it to. In fact, I'd never cared one bit about the games until I saw the movie, so I will always be grateful to the film for getting me into the games. I LOVE PH's appearance in the film, but again, that's a HUGE part of what made me want to play the games. I have no problem chalking his appearance in the film up to Rose's feelings of guilt and subconscious desire for punishment over losing her daughter in the town and not being able to help her. I know that's not what Gans and company intended, but it fits, imho. And if PH hadn't been in the film, fans would have been screaming about that too. I think the filmmakers were screwed either way on that one. The atmosphere and music: stellar. The monsters that appeared: stellar. The acting and dialogue: not so much (with the exception of Laurie Holden as Cybil, but even some of her lines were crap). I know my background with the film is different from that of most SH fans, so my opinion tends to be more forgiving. But I know I'm not the only person who was inspired by the film to get into the games. If not for the movie, I probably would never have played any of the games.

Granted, it was the previews that got me though. My friend and I played the first game the day we went to see the movie. We were like "OMFG" when we saw it. The movie's beautiful. Some of the lines are cliche and cheesy. The worst being Cheryl -Sharon (God... I just wrote Cheryl.... ) when she was at the waterfall screaming Silent Hill... seriously? Come on man....
