Well my stre got the game early today, and it wasn't street dated...so I now own it.
This will be brief for now, because I've only played about an hour due to having to leave to spend some time with my wife.
First and foremost, I have NO idea how this game will work on the PS2 or PSP. It is VERY suited to the Wii, and I feel half of it's charm will be lost on the ports to the latter two platforms.
The game is very immersive and interactive, and makes quite excellent use of the wii's motion controls. It doesn't feel gimmicky or tacked on. It feels natural and well, pretty fun actually.
Combat is extremely minimal so , that is to say I'm not actually sure if there is any. THe only encounter I've had so far was just me running and hiding from enemies.
You control Harry via the nunchucks stick, and the wiimote controls your flashlight, which is always on, and you'll be glad it is because the game is extremely dark.
You interact with so many things and the game actually adapts and changes based on your actions, very cool.
I'll get into more soon, the laptop I'm on is dying, so when I can get to a desktop I'll most mor details. I'll leave on this note though. So far, the game is very interactive and immersive, and thus far I've had a really good time with it. A very high sense of tension was present.

I'm envious. I just can't justify buying a Wii though. I just don't care for the system. What was said here though makes it sound so neat and tempting though....

Ok story line is not what you would expect, the game itself is pretty neat BUT good lordy twist!

I think you have good reason. At first, like many people, I thought the motion control features of the Wii sounded gimmicky for a game like Silent hill. But now I gotta say they work VERY well. I seriously have no idea how this game is gonna work for the PS2 and PSP. It'll probably be kinda lame.
The interactivity is very, very cool. I've never felt that immersed in a Silent Hill game until now. Getting phone calls and stuff is awesome because it comes through the wii remote speaker.
I certainly don't want to spoil anything, and I'm not even very far into the game myself, but I can say this, it's a great game thus far. And well worth the money if you have a Wii.
Something to take note of here. And believe me, when I first learned of this it was pretty off putting. But as I began to eactually experience it, I realize how very well it actually works. You don't really fight anything in this game. You don't collect various weapons, you don't partake in clunky RE style combat, or revert to the dodging system like Homecoming. You just run.
I know, this sounds odd. But believe me the way it's implemented works extremely well, making EVERY encounter tension filled and at times quite terrifying. You just run and try to escape, even having a button to look behind you, to see how close the gaining monsters are to your ass. Trust me, don't knock this until you try it. And keep in mind that SH was never really about fighting to begin with.

Looks like it's gotten fairly good ratings, and from what's been said here I am very much anticipating this games release.

Keep in mind what I've said though. The version I'm praising here is the Wii version. I honestly just don't know how well this is going to translate into the PSP and PS2 versions. I'm thinking it's going to feel quite half-assed compared to this version.

Man, I played some more tonight. The chase sequences are INTENSE. The combat encounters in Silent Hill before made you nervous, but they never really did more than that. And in most cases I just wanted to move past them and back into the story.
These new chase sequences though, I want to move past them and into the story, but for another reason. The level of tension as the screaming, sprinting and fairly intelligent monsters chasing you is awesome. Pressing down on the Dpad to look behind you and see the gathering of monsters on your heels sweeping at you only adds to the experience. The sequences are fairly difficult too as you're blindly sprinting, trying to survive, no time to look at a map. The only thing possible to break the chase, other than making it out alive is to find a flare. This provides a temporary barrier that the monsters will not pass.
During the second chase I actually broke out in a mild sweat, and my palms got sweaty as well. I felt slightly panicked as I made a wrong turn, and tried to turn back to correct my mistake. And when I finally did make it back out, I felt a complete sense of relief. The dark, icy world turning instantly to the now sunlit daytime of "normal" Silent Hill. Seriously, I haven't felt that much tension in a game since Silent Hill 3.
The small faults of the game, like sometimes over-sensitive motion controls are FAR outweighed by the things this game does right. Atmosphere, immersion, story (so far), and tension levels. A nice sense of dread is present as well.
