As we all know there is no single canon ending to SH2. However which ending do you consider to be canon? I particularly like the 'In water' ending as in the intro there is a clip of James carrying Mary, this clip is then shown in this ending only. On the other hand I also like the idea of James being stuck in the otherworld and having to repeat the process over and over again, as suggested in the Maria ending.

In Water!
I just find it... special. Has the most impact. 'Leave' is too good to be true, Maria is to farfetched, Rebirth is just silly.

Leave. I like it when weird, depressing things have happy endings.

The Dog ending! Everything has been controlled by a little dog in a massive super computer room, come on you all know it makes sense!

In Water ending is the canon one, in my opinion.
Leave didn't happened. Laura would not forgive James for what he did.
Dog ending didn't happened. The same can be said with the UFO.
Rebirth didn't happened. The idea of ressurrecting Mary is stupid, plus, what if she ressurrects with the same disease and all? Waste of time.
And Maria... James would have to be damn stupid to do the same things over and over again...

It's got to be Leave or In water, depending on what's your approach to the plot. Dog & UFO are obviously just for fun, rebirth & Maria endings depend too much on the supernatural elements of the SH cult.

Leave, I felt that after all he'd been through that he could move on. As for Laura, she had no where else to go.

Leave. If we consider SH4 canon, then the comment Henry makes about his photo of Toluca Lake hints at this. Of course, James could have just buggered off with Laura, but I see no reason why he wouldn't contact his own Dad.

Evidently, Ito-san's pick as well. I think you need to be Asian to really appreciate this one, but it certainly has wu
It was the first ending I got, and there was something so lusciously tragic about committing suicide to atone for a sin that you've already been forgiven. Any HK film could have this ending
Also, there is the notion of how simple this ending is- From a production standpoint, this one is definitely the winner

the only problem with in water ending is that it made the last leg of the game pointless, you only arrive to an ending that could of concluded back in the video room.
If James really did have suicide on his mind when he discovered the truth, why did he fight all the way through the hotel, told Angela that he would never kill himself, defeat two Pyramid heads with his will to go on (come on, he didn't beat them pysically, we know that) defeat Maria and lives long enougth to be forgiven by Mary (either for real or is a manivesation repersenting James' getting over the guilt, take your pick) Why was it only AFTER all that James decided he coulden't live without mary?
The in water ending is a bit of a middle finger after all that. If the in water ending was the one to go then it should of happened earlier.
Not that the leave ending was perfect either, It is unlikely that Laura would just forgive James (unless we have had it wrong all this time, and Laura was in fact walking AWAY from James, not with him, she was like a good ten minutes ahead of him)
