I hope I'm okay posting this with my watermark (I have big plans for this guy elsewhere which is why it's on there for now) but I wanted to share elsewhere. If this is a concern, please delete the thread, no hard feelings. For everyone else, my apologies, but please bare with the watermarks. They'll be by the wayside as soon as the other details are finished with him. It started with me wanting to re-texture Robbie for a special purpose which lead me to SH4 and this capture: The problem though was Robbie's body was twisted pretty bad in that capture. Next came the augurous task of re-positioning him, vertex by vertex, to a T-pose: A lot of patience and diligence paid off: His mesh (polygonal body) was in pretty good shape... except it was in tris. I then optimized his mesh by deleting edges to give his body a quad edgeflow in addition to making brand new UVs for later texturing. (NOTE: Yes, yes, his feet and hands still have a bunch of messy tris. I got lazy, okay? Retopologizing and optimizing isn't a glamorous think after all...): His diffuse (flat) head texture is completed shortly after: Then his normal/spec maps for the head: Next up in the texturing production was his body. This was the most fun (and time consuming) part of the whole thing. Adding wrinkles all over him was very relaxing. Also, in the original mesh, his tie is a "blob" that protruded out of his chest. I deleted that whole area and made him a new tie. Funny enough, my tie has less geometry than the original one and, well, it actually looks like a tie: After more work his entire diffuse (flat) textures were complete: Just image how this'll look once I create the normal and spec maps for the body, create the proper lighting and put it in a game engine for optimal sexiness.* That's the plan, anyway. *Not as anything playable but as in game engines have great rendering and processing capabilities.

Wow Ratio, this is quite the project! He's so cute, in a way that only a blood covered stuffed animal can be.
Looking good, how long did it take to get this far?

Why thank you kindly. So far, it took four days to optimize his mesh and re-texture. Probably another full day to create the normal/spec maps for the body (those maps are my weak point in texturing... it's hard to make an object look believable with those maps without being too shiny or bumpy-looking).

Good looking skin, especially the wrinkles on the arms. Unfortunately those toenails aren't doing you any favors, especially since he doesn't have fingernails. IMHO, you should ditch 'em. But that's just me...
Otherwise, it looks pretty sweet

I agree, the toenails look kinda sketchy... I would like to see him when you place him in his natural environment, dark bedroom or general blood and rust. Wish I can say something technical, but this isn't my realm of expertise, keep us updated on its progress!

Thanks guys for the input. Vio, you can bet you'll see finished, non-watermarked pics when he's fully ready-to-go. To clarify, you're saying the toenails are sketchy because they shouldn't be there? If so, Robbie does have toenails from SH3 and 4, they're just very hard to see: I also caved and optimized the mesh on his hand/feet. They've went from a mess of jumbled tris to a tolerable and sensible quad format: Additionally, here are the UV layouts along with the diffuse textures:

...what I was saying was that the human style toenail configuration in your first pic didn't get it done. You've now switched over to a bunny style design, so it isn't nearly as bad. Although you should still either add nails to the hands or omit them from the feet, the overall feel has much less discord

I dig what you're saying. ;-) Although I haven't updated his toenails since so you may have originally envisioned him different than what he was textured as in the game. I was going for accuracy which means human toenails, no fingernails, like in the original texture but I appreciate your input. If I was the guy who created Robbie you can be sure I would've designed him a little bit differently.

Oh well as long as it works, I couldn't remember how exactly what Robbie's feet looked like in the games, just thought that given the the great work and detail on the rest of him. That the kinda jagged polygonal toenails stick out like a... sore thumb. (Sorry I couldn't stop myself...)

Sore thumb... *giggle snort* Better watch it there, Vio... You don't want to step on any TOES
PWAhaHAhaaa I really _nailed_ that one!
