not doing too well right now

I don't feel like being active right now or working on anything. I've been great the past couple of weeks because school has started up, but let's just say I've been ditched.

If anyone has any tips on making and keeping friends, that would be great or just general advice on social life. I'm a young college student having social issues (I've always had social issues, and I'm getting quite sick of it). Thanks again, and you guys should I know I love ya. Anyone who's a fan of SH is a friend of mine...

Well, as someone who feels socially awkward as well I hope I can help you. I myself don't have a lot of friends anymore and I tend to keep to myself after school is over and all.

One thing I think you should try to do it talk to everyone you can in your class/classes and try to find people you can relate to. I am always terrified about this when I start in new classes or schools but since I started my new education I found a great friend who is just slightly more weird than me and we hang out great. It's hard to find these kind of great people but all you've got to do is talk to a lot of people, just see if you can keep up good and funny conversations.

Also, a mistake I make time and time again, is to come up with excuses for yourself why you shouldn't go to this party, go see these people after school etc. You always have got to keep yourself going, no matter how annoying or discomforting it is to talk more with the people around you. If you open up to people they'll eventually open up to you. And there will always be people like yourself out there that you can really relate to and have a great time with.

Hope you could use any of these ideas, it's just I'm socially weird so maybe I might not be able to give the best advices but hopefully you can still use some of this. Despite that, I hope everything will work out for you soon and that we'll see you back around these parts again. ;D

I actually didn't really have any problems until I got a social life last year. Then everything went downhill and sometimes I just wish someone would kill me and I tried to kill myself last summer. But it's too important to me to give up. I feel pretty emo right now though. (I used to hate that word, now I use it all the time in terms of myself.)

All I can say is main thing being at school you are happy take the positives from the day with you home and as weird as it sounds this is your opportunity to do more stuff you want without arguement or worry

I speak for myself here maybe for others aswell if you ever need to talk to someone just for a chat or to get something off your mind I am happy to listen and talk if it helps you out. Social issues bit of s sticky subject but is it that you are shy or something else?

I used to do that aswell not go to things and then question it after but powered through and got a bit more confidence. I agree on the talking to people in classes part even if its just day to day conversation which if goes well may eventually lead to being friends and hanging out then all good

Dude you are the last person I'd expect to being upset over things since I've known you of SHFUK probably one of the most funny people I know but also intelligent aswell to have good conversations. Glad you pulled through I'd miss you on the gang wouldn't say stuff you and blacky/lolli some of the most funny things ever on those threads

Well, as harsh as it sounds...real friends stick with you through thick and thin. Those that don't weren't that great of friends to begin with.

To be completely blunt, most people before the age of 25 are fucking idiots. Fickle, self centered arseholes. As such it can be really hard to find a good friend. But interest in the same things, similar opinions of things, and just sharing a hobby can net you a good friend or two. The trick is to not go out obsessively looking for it. Then you just come off as a clown who craves attention.

If you're into something a lot, it's only a matter of time before you find someone else who is too. Take me for example, I'm REALLY into heavy metal music, and most of my friends are as well. Even my wife. Hell, my wife originally asked me out AT a metal concert.

I've found friends through that hobby. We can talk shop about our favorite bands, guitarists, etc. Met more than a few of them at concerts.


Just find your niche man, that's all I can say. Get over the thought of being so alone, just become a fun person to be around. It'll work out in the long run.

That right there proves to be very true more often than not. It's unfortunate, but not all-encompassing or overextending, for what it's worth to say so. If I can also add onto another previously mentioned point, making a committment to a party is a step, yes, just as much as going out and finding social events being done out in the open. Cafes, lounges, libraries, museums, parks, bandshells, clubs, anything that you can get to without really even needing to feel you have to go along with somebody else, it can lead to satisfaction if you keep at it.

Try drinking more, because everybody loves a drunk. Also try 'being yourself' less, because you are probably an arsehole and nobody likes an arsehole. Seriously, get really good at drinking and act in a way that your peers are bound to accept, it's the only guaranteed method for social inclusion - If that's what you think you really need. You probably don't though, it's massively over-rated.
