When is 3D not a gimmick? The only example I can think of was Coraline, which still had the obligatory poke
The entire concept is a fcuking gimmick

I don't mind 3D being used in slasher films because most slashers have very little story beyond people getting sliced and diced. However, Silent Hill is a universe which focuses on characters, story and atmosphere, something I feel will just be played down through the use of 3D.
Good plots and characters don't need any kind of 3D enhancement unless the filmmakers are cashing in on a popular gimmick, i.e. Twilight and the sudden vampire surge.

As for the 3d, I will just wait and see a 2d version, one way or the other. Ito posted that he was contacted to do creatures but declined. =0( Which brings us to... do you think they'll use different monsters than in sh3? It breaks my heart that Ito can't do it, though. I haven't heard any other news on the matter. I'm just going to have zero expectations, and then I'll hope the movie surprises me and doesn't suck.

I think some of the enemies from the game would be nice to see in the movie, like the closer. The Insane Cancer would probably make the audience laugh until they realize that it can RUN.

Oh yeah. The insane cancer make ME laugh, too, until it started kicking my ass and chasing me.

If they used critters from multiple games on the first movie, I could see them doing it again for the second, even if it's suppose to be strictly based off the third game. Pendulum is the first one in my mind that'd be a little cartoony and expendible.

When is 3D not a gimmick? The only example I can think of was Coraline, which still had the obligatory poke The entire concept is a fcuking gimmick I can now say, without any hesitation: Tron. Its interesting to me in that its intentionally a hybrid 2D/3D film. When Sam Flynn enters the Grid for the first time, its a Dorothy in Oz moment, which I'm sure was their intent. Also, when I saw Tron on Friday, a few previews were in 3D. The ones that stuck out to me were Green Hornet and Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Oddly, while Pirates was the most technically sound of the 3D previews (cuz hey, Disney money), it was Green Hornet that used the technology best. In that preview it really felt that the filmmakers used 3D to its potential, and not just as a gimmick. The scenes had real depth to them that impressed me. For instance, one bit has Kato showing Britt Reid the gas gun for the first time. When Reid picks it up it really felt like one could just reach out and adjust the feed and pull the trigger. Really well done.

I read something from a Tumblr blog which it was a bit of the script (hope it's not false) where it was about Heather, 17 years-old being introduced to the class and there was her teacher too. I instantly thought about those anime where they introduce the new student to the class (just like Evangelion with Asuka for those who know). It sounded so lame and cliché...
I liked the first movie, despite of how they changed Alessa's story and some other stuff like "what the hell is PH doing here?" but overall, it was a cool movie. At least they worked hard for the background, monsters and all. But about this new upcoming movie, I'm really having negative thoughts about it... no hopes on it. And if they put a scream "queen" as Heather just like most of the American movies where they just run and do dumb stuff and scream all over the place, I swear I'm going to kill someone in the theater.
At least they are trying to get Akira Yamaoka working with them... I know his works are an essential part of Silent Hill but... it's not only that that it matters.

I really hope that's not the real script, because that scene is incredibly cliche. And what's with the sterotypical teacher attire? Wooden beads and a polo neck? Couldn't they have picked something less generic?

Well we can hardly tell anything at all from that excerpt. Certainly not enought to be bashing it already.

Agreed, nothing to bash, although, to be honest, it's pretty amusing to me for some reason. I can almost picture it, now: she stands up, starts an answer that turns into an internal monologue, see some of her normal routine and social interactions, and then WHAM, monsters everywhere and she's running around screaming. Still gonna watch it.

I hardly think that script leak is genuine, any one in the film business that are worth their salt woulden't let a script of an movie in it's early stages fall into the public's hands so eaily.
Besides, even if that were to happen, after a few head have rolled they would most likely change the script, such a scene woulden't be that hard to change.
Though the biggest indication that this may be bullshit is that the source claiming to of found this script comes from imdb. Not exactly the most realible source of movie news is it?
