@Blacky - Becaaaaaause...Ionno. I'm hoping the plot has been finely crafted to explain things such as this in a manner that will adequately satisfy the hardcore of Silent Hill fans.
..Buuut that wouldn't happen if the lord himself created a movie from all our hopes and rust-riddled dreams..XD
I just hope he doesn't act like a typical broody teen douche or have any "moments" with Heather...o___o;

It seems to me that they can reproduce the feeling and look of Silent Hill very well. It's just the story and characters they seem to screw up on. In my opinon their mistake is trying to keep the fans happy by including familar scenarios and characters which could just never fully satify the fans. They should just focus on a brand new story all together but one that is within the Silent Hill universe. It's all about playing to your strengths. That said, I think Shattered Memories would make a great film, it went in it's own direction with only tidbits of referance. Mabye if the first Silent hill film was more like that it would of been a more enjoyable film

Sorry to be a moaning cow, but I really hate to see one of my favourite characters morphed into some sort of teen heart throb type. He doesn't even have the specs *cries.*
I have to agree with Blacky. They're messing with characters and storylines in such a way that no fan will ever be 100% happy with the direction they take. But that being said, if it was an original storyline, the fans would only bitch about it not having the trademark characters. It's a lose/lose situation.

Lolli seems to be overlooking the obvious solution- Since the storyline was fine as-is, simply adapt it to the screen and stop bolting on needless characters and sassy CG dogs
This way you can rely on the plot to drive the film, not 3d gimmicks. But don't feel bad, Lolli... Not even the studio realized this and it is supposedly their job to know these things

Well when it comes to including trademark characters, I'd put it down to fans simply not knowing what they really want. In the end, with something with so many ideas such as Silent hill, focusing on trying to throw in the characters and scenes of the games is kind of superfical. Because while the in the games the character development is important, the games arn't just about Harry, Alessa, Heather or even the cult. It's really about an a town with an history, paranormal beings and unknown forces, an character's inner mind manivested into reality and most of all, disturbing the hell out of the audiance. Those the are things they should be trying to get on that screen, not just throwing names in there to keep the fans happy. Because as I pointed out, you can't fullfill their every expectations anyways. But that's my opinon as an university art student, spend a few years with lecturers demeaning you for focusing too much on the story of films in your essays rather than the meaning, and you'd think the same.

It's just that the fans are too picky. I know the story and meaning is important, but in order to be considered a decent adaptation, I, personally, would like to see characters I'm familiar with. As alx said, everything is already laid out for them, but the directors seem to be working backwards, including silly things that you don't need and messing with key characters to make them into some sort of generic archetype.
I don't get what's so hard about taking the game and turning a pre-existing plot into a film. The work is done for them.

Looking at this pic I instantly thought "Is he turning valvey cog things? Did they mean he won't be in the movie *as a threat*, but not that he wouldn't appear at all? Do they reeeally want me to sulk like a five year old and mail them feces in bags of candy every week for the next ten years?". Now, back to closely scrutinising the pic hoping it is just nicely photoshopped.

They also said it would be a good film and the 3D wasn't gonna be all gimmicky. Bet you believed those lies as well... I'm so confused. I thought they specifically said PH would NOT be in this one:

Valtiel I can understand, but PH?
However, I am curious about that big red blur on the left. Stupid I know, but I just want to see what it is.

A more obvious example of my point about the creators tying to please fans by stuffing characters from the games into the films, even ones that don't belong there. I bet they have been listening to the dumb half of the fandom that are obsessed with Pramid Head and would view his absence in an film the same way an Twilight fan would view a film without Edward or Jacob in it

Was looking at Vincent pictures when I realised something. The most ideal and obvious actor to play Vincent would be...... Why the hell coulden't they justed hired Cillian Murphy to play Vincent? The fact that he is a well known actor, can act creepy and can be made to look just like Vincent just highlights how much fail the casting of Vincent in the film really is

I have low hopes for this movie, it looks too similar to the original.

So after seeing these pics, is anybody regretting that they got rid of Gans? Because this is looking like it's going to be so much more cringeworthy. Still gonna see it. Also, I swear I saw the Vincent-boyfriend thing coming from a mile away. Still hoping to be wrong and heavily mistaken.
If I haven't missed something on the previous pics, how about any mention of Claudia or Douglas? Have they been completely cut out?
