Yeah, Korn is now writing the theme song for the game. I'm sure it'll be deep and relevant to the plot to the game (just like every other song written by an outside group with no vested interest in the project) This just reeks of sheer ignorance on Konami's part. Source

I heard on SH Heaven it's just for the menu so if people hate it they can just skip through it real fast and get to the music by the new guy that people seem to be liking alright.

Am I the only one that thinks this could be pretty good? Korn are able to make some very eerie melodies and songs and if they do so for Silent Hill then it should fit right in.

I have to somewhat agree, Korn isn't entirely a bad band. If they can pull it off, great. If not, this will only be the second thing I'm not looking forward to with the game.

Yeah I like Korn. They seem to have a knack for creating eerie atmospheres within their own music, why shouldn't it work for Silent Hill? Afterall, most music composers share no interest in the games they compose for. They do it based off a plot synopsis.
I'm pretty sure Harry Gregson Williams had no interest in the MGS games beyond being paid to create a soundtrack. Isn't that the same with Korn?
Give them a quick run through of the game's storyline and leave them to it, that's what I say.

Meh Give them a quick run through of the game's storyline and leave them to it, that's what I say. Nah, I better their time is too important. Didn't Korn do the music for Queen of the Damned, the worst pre-Twilight vampire movie... That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence... Besides they are still together? I thought they were part of my angst ridden middle school experience and my partying high school teenage period during which my motto was 'screw you parents ' (I wonder what that means in Latin )... and that one South Park episode ages ago. I guess the band members haven't grown out of that dark dress-up phase yet.

Hate to bitch too much, but a theme song is supposed to set the mood and represent the game, and judging from Korn's past output, I just can't see them managing a decent Silent Hill-ish atmosphere. Even if you can easily skip it, I would be disappointed if it ruins the SH mood and is also used in the trailers, etc.

Honestly? "Let's get this party started" is pure Silent Hill 1 (I used to listen a lot to that track while playing it, so I always relate them both lol)

PFFFF! I love Korn. I really love them. However, this really isn't Silent Hill anymore. I am about this close (gestures with thumb and forefinger) to abandoning Silent Hill entirely. Just throwing my fandom out the window, and forgetting that all games after the 4th one ever happened.
I'm quite serious. If I stop existing entirely on this forum, you'll know why.

Agreed, Korn has nothing to do with the golden age of the series, I know I sound like a huge picky fan boy saying it. But what about the silence, the grating industrial noises when a monster appears (and not), the sound of rushing air that gave the impression that the world was breathing. This stuff was scary, because the enabled the imagination to fill in the blanks. The quiet chords in the title screen of SH2 had such atmosphere because they said so little, expressing only the essential part of atmosphere. The out of tune guitar (quiet, trying to be straight forward but just a little bit off) has more to do with the series then Korn.
I liked Korn - ten years ago - and grew out of it, the loud angst of it just sounds over-inflated now. The band still sounds like a spoiled teenager from an upper-middle class family whose life is just so awful.

The music of the Silent Hill main menu is pretty much my lowest priority when I'm worrying about liking a game or not.
For instance, I never really liked that music that played over SH2's opening music video, but I still love that game.

Korn? No thanks. Far too angsty, too much chugging guitar and lyrics that mean absolutely nothing to me and I can't relate to.
The way Silent Hill has been heading in recent years is the main reason why rarely drop by here and have migrated to other forums and sites. I just come back to check up see what you guys are getting up to and post some pics etc.
I don't understand why metal music apparently equals horror. In my honest opinion I think they should have gone for something a bit more ambient. It's only title screen music, but I don't see why bolting a band, who have had absolutely no previous relation to SH, onto this game is a good idea.
If you ask me they should be looking into these guys (or a similar artist) to make some music. They're pros when it comes to ambient sounds. To me, this tune easily shows a strong blend of most aspects of different Silent Hill music. It has the ambience, the industrial noise, the grain. And at around 2:45 when it goes calm and 2:59 when the bassline kicks in, it's reminiscent of one or two tracks from the SH2 OST. Sure the almost church choir/organ sound is very heavy, but tone that down and you'd have most of the elements right there.
