This looks like it'll be pretty fun. Chances are I'll pick it up eventually but I doubt I'll rush out to get it.
RE5 was pretty meh to me and I probably got around half way through and just lost interest. RE4 was really, really fun but the dialogue and story was frickin awful even for an RE game. Because of those two games I lost quite a bit of interest in the RE series.
I'd really like to see them take an actual modern take on the old school style some day. Bring back the real survival horror. But at the same time, the RE4 gameplay was phenomenal.
Either way, this looks like it'll turn out really good. I should probably suck it up and finish RE5 again. I've been thinking about playing all the RE games again for fun.

Well, to be fair, RE5 was just RE4 in Africa. It was a carbon copy, which is probably why it didn't sell too well.
I do think the current gameplay could be used in a survival horror setting. The scariest part of RE5 was the underground labs, where you had to avoid confrontation with the lickers. It had me on the edge of my seat. If they just removed the BFGs and gave you a pistol, you'd be pretty much set.

It's been a long time since I touched the game but I recall something with the movement and aiming driving me nuts. RE4 seemed to have a lot more flow with its gameplay. I think I'll go on an RE binge though and eventually finish RE5.

The move to Co-Op didn't really help things. One of the things i loved about i loved in RE4 was the inventory system took a massive leap away from the existing RE set up, but 5 Went back to the massively restricted 9 squares. The whole game was designed around Co-op, and it suffered for a lot of players because of it.

I agree with all of Redemption's post.
It's not scary with another person hanging onto you. Sheva, as a character, was a nice addition to RE, but in practice, she was unneeded.
It's much more terrifying if you're by yourself and barely getting by. In RE5 you had a sidekick and enough firepower to arm a small nation.
That isn't scary.
re: Inventory.
Now that you mention it, I do prefer RE4's to RE5's.
To quote Yahtzee: In RE4 an egg was the size of an egg. In RE5 an egg is the same size as an AK47.....If you want to wear armor that takes up a space too. You're carrying your armor in a pocket of your armor
Also it was announced that RE6 will have a demo......if you buy Capcom's Dragon Dogma. 360 will get the demo July 3rd and PS3 will get the demo September 3rd.
I don't understand the time exclusivity of a DEMO.

CAPCOM: Survival Horror Wouldn't SellThis is annoying me on so many levels. In interviews they've openly stated that they want to get COD level sales. They're never gonna get those numbers because most COD players never touch the SP so they're fucking up the SP to appeal to COD players. It's just.....my disappointment should be self evident. RE players want to play RE. If they wanted to play COD, you know what they'd do? They'd play COD!! Goddammit, Capcom, you're dumb

That is just fucking greedy.
But, unfortunate as it may seem, survival horror is a niche market, and since CoD was released and pretty much doomed video games to the terrible fate that is FPS, nobody is willing to create anything that doesn't involve blowing the shit out of every object in a five mile radius.

We, and by we I mean gamers, are to blame. We keep on buying the same shit over and over. Everything is becoming an FPS and has a tacked on MP that screws over the SP. That's another issue I agree survival horror is a niche market but there is still a market for it. Unfortunately its mostly on the PC so I can't play it. I guess I'll have to stick to the PS1/PS2 games. Dead Space was pretty good but DS2 became more action orientated

Well you know it's not like they had any talent in the survival horror area for years now. Can't quite remember the last time I associated Resident evil with scares. Mabye they have finally got some self awareness and realised that games where you shoot shit is what they are good at

I do like the new games, but I can understand why old school fans are sick and tired of all the action. I never considered the old games to be scary. At least, not until Code Veronica. But they had a certain charm to them. The mystery of exploring dark hallways, being on edge because you never knew what was going to jump out at you, having to be careful with ammo because it was scarce.
It's sort of predictable now. The general rule is to kill everything in sight. There's no suspense. I miss that.

The former is of possessing god-like power. The latter is to become vulnerable. Also the FPS is no longer the lonely single player protagonist, but much more social these days with advances in multi-player. Meanwhile the Survival Horror is still a loner's game. Lastly, FPS's can be cloned in endless sequels, gamers still buy because they are consistent and predictable improvements on previous installments. Their plots are merely episodic. Survival Horror, on the other hand, does not work well with repetition. The Silent Hill sequels have demonstrated that a predictable embellishment of an idea easily becomes stale, and simply not scary. Yeah, so it's pretty clear to me that the FPS as a genre should be more popular, it's easier.

New Trailer. Actually, there's been a heap of Capcom trailers the past few hours, for those interested. 'Mystery Man' not so mysterious anymore, suppose it makes some sort of sense though, given he has the magic blood. IGN have a preview of sorts. I only skimmed it, cause is IGN (why even bother posting it then, i don't know). Not sure, but i got the impression there might be side missions, would make sense if they're offering dialogue trees.

Games broken street date is Aus, i've so far managed to resist it. Considering the things i've read about it (30% RE4 Leons Story, 30% RE5 Jakes Story, 30% Gears of War Chris Story) i'm not really interested paying full price for a game i think i might only enjoy a 3rd of. Waiting for the eventual re-release or price drop. Reviews are generally still being held by the Embargo date, but allegedly Gamespots review went up breifly, with a 4.5 ... out of 10. Sounds like IGN style shock reviewing though. Most people i've seen that are playing it are saying its good, but they're all on the Leon campaign.

I've only played the two demos... The latter of which I really enjoyed. I'll be getting the game for sure, dunno what to expect from it story wise honestly. But I do believe the multiplayer should be a lot of fun, both the competitive and cooperative stuff.
