I´m halfway through SH:O (I think) and I have to say I am having a blast. Maybe it´s because it´s been so long since I last played a SH game but I´m really enjoying it. I keep thinking to myself "Not bad for a PSP port." So, I´m curious... Why did this game receive sucha cold shoulder from gamers everywhere?
I feel like I´m missing out on things, that I didn´t get the memo or something... ^_^

You know I liked Origins as well, I thought it was a good game, and it was true to the series.
But you know how hard to please fans are, especially SH fans!
I know griping does have its place, remember the original enemy concepts (with claws, muscles, and fangs) they were awful, and the negitive response got more SH-ish monsters (tortured, without eyes (mostly), unorthodox attacks, and my personal fav: sexual innuendos). But too complaining, scares developers into being too conservative, or even worse trying to incorporate some concepts/characters to just to appease us (why hello cameo-PH and busty nurses!).

I loved it too! It's got great atmosphere, especially for a portable game.
And I like how the story isn't butchered (pun not intended) into something mediocre - there's enough original elements and familiar tie-ins with the rest of the series to keep you entertained. Of course, it also has Shakespeare in it - and that's always a plus.

I liked it well enough, but two things have actually kept me from beating it.
A: I REALLY dislike the breakable weapons thing. B: I found several parts just boring.
Beyond that, I thought it was pretty cool. Homecoming I liked quite a bit more, despite the fact that most think Origins is a lot more Sh like.

I liked Origins too. It was really a good game for a portabal game.
Of course there are some points which I dont like but that happens^^ Nothing is perfect.
Come to think of it. I think I like it more than Homecoming?

Thanks, guys. Suddenly, I don´t feel quite so awkward regarding this game anymore.

I enjoyed this game as well, although some parts were kind of weak.

I loved Origins. A lot. I played it to death when it first came out. The music, atmosphere, monsters, it all screamed Silent Hill to me. Not to mention it's been ages since we really got to wander around the town at all, even if it was kinda small.
It had it's flaws but for a PSP game developed by a different company, they did a very good job.
The PS2 port however? What a shame, what an awful shame. I really wish it was worth it. I would've loved that game to death on PS2 but they had to ruin it with sound glitches of all things.

I rather liked it, though it didnt live up to my expectations, esp story-wise. I hated the breakable weapons and that last bit before the end, running blindly through the streets with all those stupid monsters.

I died quite a few times because my weapon broke - and that sprint to the antique shop was scary as hell. I missed the map the first time I played, so I bumped into almost every monster out there, lol.

Actually, I found the game to be a bit easier when I relied on my fists most of the time; and when I learned that the carrions could be easily dealt with by throwing kitchen appliances at them.

Yeah I missed the stupid map too, and it was just completelyblindly running. Argh. I found it frustrating because I kept dying, bumping into monsters with no health. The part that freaked me out were the arrow halls in the theater with those hangy puppet things. argh.
I loved the kitchen appliance throwing! I had a great arsenal of toasters I would hurl at the final boss every time after I ran out of bullets, and I always fought the nurses with fists, because it's totally fun to punch out nurses. lol.
Any, brb, I have to go play this again. Seriously, haven't played in a long time.

I enjoyed Origins a lot. It had its flaws but it was still enjoyable and some areas were really fantastically done. There were some things that felt unfinished or tacked on and it really didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, but I think it's still a good addition to the series.
I still haven't played Homecoming (3 more weeks to wait...) so I can't compare it to that.

I havent played SHH either, so I also can't compare.
I understand why people complain about like the Lisa/Kaufman scene and certain other things, and maybe the characters feel a bit too much like cameos or fanservice, but I think it was enjoyable in the end, yeah. Some of the monsters were sort of lackluster, but I liked the cage things. And I like Travis better than Henry, anyway. ^_^
