You haven't met a wide variety of people then and/or haven't study history. The strange cult ones are very real. XD I didn't read anything in their post that said that cults weren't real. From what I read, they were just saying that they can relate to the "everyman" feel of James in SH2 and the more psychological aspects of the game. Although cults are very real, the vast majority of us have never had any experience with one.

Although cults are very real, the vast majority of us have never had any experience with one. My apologies. I got the wrong impression and misworded my statement. I think is it because do not give 1-3 enough credit and I tend to be a bittrigger happy in the sense on that matter. I was simply defending the other series 1-3 because I feel they have just as strong characters and I feel that a majority can't relate to James or Angela and possibly not even Eddie just as well with the cultish characters, Cheryl and Heather. Everyone can relate to losing a love one like James did, but not everyone can relate to them dying in a horrible way on top of the fact of feel guilt cause of their death and be so overwhelmed by, having severe emotional distress and dellusions. I do find the characters more down to earth but they are very situational meaning unless you have a firm understand of what that character is going through, you really won't get it. It is hard to imagine what it is like to be molested and beaten by your father unless you have personal experience or know someone well enough who has been through that for the most part. To be honest, again I think the majority of the fans don't give 1 and 3 enough credit and really just don't understand whats going on with the other characters nor give them a chance. Perhaps I am bit harsh about it but from my experience and reading a lot of peoples opinions, that is the conclusion I have drawn so I am quick to defend the other characters and even the SH2 ones when people thump on them like Eddie and James. Of course everyones entitled to your opinion but the validity of the opinion is also view closely by some of us.

I love 3. It ties with 2 as my favorite. I've only gotten to play 1 once and that was after playing 2-4, so the graphics in 1 were really dated by the time I got to play it and that really detracted from the game for me.
So, it IS hard for me to appreciate 1 as much as 2 and 3, and even Origins, because I already knew the story before I played it and the graphics are so out of date as to detract from the game for me.

I understand that. But, the trick is, if you really start to enjoy the game, you will forget about the graphics, at least with me. I remember I played a game called King's Field. REALLY simple 3D blockie graphics, somewhat like the original wolfestien but better. But I played it just to see what it was about and next thing ya know I was hooked and everything was real to me, the crappy graphics were gone. I remember when I went back to play 1 after playing 2, I was amazed how poor the graphics were. All my memories had like SH2 graphics lol. Maybe it is just me.

I remember I played the game called King's Field. Fix'd. Also, graphics should be the least important thing in Silent Hill. Sure, it helps, but it's no way necessary which SH1 proves time and time again. Just think about the sewers! I wouldn't say SH1 and 3 are less popular though. 2 might be critically most acclaimed, but I always had the idea 3 is the most played. 1 and 3 are more "direct" in approach, while SH2 has that subtlety about it, that's the main difference.

The sewers scared me shitless, still do too. I remember being ambushed in the final section and legging it to the ladder before the monsters could attack me, ha ha

I'm a VERY visual person, and if the visuals don't immerse me or are in any way distracting, it ruins everything for me. And as I don't have a console to play it on, it's not as if I can play it often enough to try and get used to it anyway. I have to say, I'm glad I didn't play 1 first. I might not have played any of the others. It didn't really scare me at all, and like I said, the graphics were distracting and even laughable at times. Of course, if I'd played it when it first came out I'm sure I'd feel very differently. But by the time I played it, graphics had come a LONG way, so that pretty much killed any effect SH1 might have had one me otherwise.

I agree, however, must state that #1 totally got to me. I seem to remember the school as the place that had my nerves failing! Good testament to the incredible gameplay, even in this outdated version. I would have to give credit to AlexY, though; "subtlety" is the name of the game! That must be what propels SH2 to greater heights. Given, though; Eddie is a bit of a twat!

I already started replaying SH1 this afternoon. I just finished the hospital. I've decided to start exploring the town a little more, something I've never tried in SH1 before. Gotta say there are lots of places I never knew held ammo and health supplies.

Aww now you guys got me wanting to play...BAD! SH2 always feels so ...right...I agree. It's terrifying, but It's soothing and embracing at the same time. If I can say such a thing. It's like the horror is your paying to be in such a wonderful numb dream, and such a place couldn't exist if not for that peculiar balance. Perhaps I haven't slept in a while. My cat sleeps like 16 hours a day on a fuzzy blanket, SH2 is like the same, a long and terrifying, strangely comfortable nightmare. edit: If I ever win a bazillion dollars, I will have a complete recreation of Silent Hill made, and you can all live there.

If I ever win a bazillion dollars, I will have a complete recreation of Silent Hill made, and you can all live there. You do that and we'll make you the mayor! Hmmm...where would I live? The Woodside Apartments? One of those cute little houses along Lindsey St.? Or maybe I'd want to live near Midwich Elementary, so the kids can walk to school. Ahhh, decisions, decisions.
