Since the inclusion of an Afro haircut, the game is made of pure win for me.

This is esentially the battle system from FFXII without gambits and a better HUD. Hooray! Also, I <3 the SF setting.

I liked Xenosaga's story better personally because it deals with religion.
That and the localization wasn't god aweful

The characters were bland, bland, bland, and the plot was moving waaaay to slow for me. I don't know, I remember meeting a pirate/prince guy or something and I said to myself "How the hell did I get here and why?" I don't know, Xenogears is a mystery to me, just like Star Ocean and Suikoden. I just don't get those games.

Theres a shit ton of religious stuff in Gears, it starts about midway through.
Saga the references are more subtle and come more into play in the third and final episode

na.square-enix.com/ff13/Looks fast and will take some time getting used to it It also reminds me of Xenogears battle system i like the faster paced combat systems. I hated how X was turn based, the battles felt boring, there was little to no tension since your not waiting to see who will attack next, waiting to quickly input your attack. Oh how i love the old ATB. Never got to play Xenogears, don't know if it even got released over here.

Hey look it's Final Fantasy Gear Solid XII: Enter the Matrix!
That said, my gripes... The matriy shit is fucking LAME, as is the majority of character designing. Especially the guy in the trench coat with the hat...I'd rather play Jar Jar Binks than that loser.
BUT, the battle system looks great.
That said, I fucking LOVE Xenogears and it's story. One of my top five favorite RPGs ever made actually, beating every Final Fantasy except Tactics to me... Xenosaga on the other hand...I try to pretend they don't exist.
as for Suikoden, shit I love that series too. It doesn't get half the praise it deserves. No RPG has ever captured the political intrique theme anywhere near as well as Suikoden.
I also loved the combat system from FF12, and the gambit system. But the best part of the gambit system was that...*gasp*, it was optional! I also really enjoyed the setting and character in 12. I HATE the sci-fi setting in 13...really don't want that, but I gotta take it anyway.

Everybody despises the gambits for some reason, but never do they stop and think and just not use them. :/ As for sci-fi, well, that's just opinion. I like it, but I also don't mind the fantasy setting. Steampunk FFIX FTW!

If I had to choose the MMORPG style of FFXII or the classic ATB of FFI-X I'd have to say the ATB.
I LOVE the sci-fi setting. I like the old school ones too but I'm a sci fi geek so I'll prefer the futuristic setting

I'm a sci-fi fan myself, but I haven't read any sci-fi in so long... Dick's Valis was my last read. :/

XII is considered ATB? Huh, learn something new every day.
I guess I didn't like it because you could freely move around and whatnot.
I like XIII because it, I BELIEVE, I could be wrong here, returns to the old school ATB

After the emo-fest that was FFX, and the trainwreck "Girl-power/charlie's angels/pop princess" known as FFX-2 i was REALLY happy with what FFXII brought with it. I was completely and utterly impressed and loved every minute of the game. Having feared this series was all but dead to me, a breath of minty-fantastic fresh air came in the form of FFXII and reignited the spark of love I once held so fondly for this series growing up.
I liked the freedom of movement in FFXII, very nice breath of fresh air for the series. And yeah, it was still ATB, as while you had freedom of movement, it was essentially still the same system outside of that fact.
When I heard FFXIII probably WOULDN'T use a similar system I was disappointed. The sci-fi theme and shitty character design didn't help matters. I liked FFVIII, but it was hard to swallow the sci-fi like setting. On the other hand both FF films were fucking garbage to me. They were both pretty, but...bleagh.
If this truly were Steam Punk, as was mentioned before, I'd probably like it. I LOVE steam punk, not big at all on standard sci-fi though.
Still...man this game has the absolute worst character designs I've ever seen in the series. The guy in the trench coat makes me want to pummel him fiercely just looking at him. He's got everything that him hip different and edgy, all in a bad way. Light, pretty boy stubble? Check. Lame skully complete with spiky blond bangs? Check. Large trench coat which sleeves look a size or two too small for the fellow? Check. UGH...completely shitty.
It's all personal opinion...but hey, it's my personal opinion, and it's how I feel.
But ti gets better...the main character, at least whom I presume to be the main character looks like Milia Jovovich...AKA: Most unattractive actress in the world that many consider attractive. (To me anyway...whatever.)
No thank you. Seriously, I'm praying that one day the guys who create these characters will make some main characters that don't look hyper trendy like they just stepped out of a boy band/pop group.
RANTING ASIDE...I still want to play the game, hoping and praying that I can get over this for a good game underneath it all. But there's just so much for me to dislike here...it's gonna be quite difficult to impress me.
It's all personal opinion...but hey, it's my personal opinion, and it's how I feel.
