I want to talk about some of this Game of the Year bussiness we see this time every year. Since this years had some pretty big Sequels and New IP releases come out, Do you think whats been getting credit deserves whats its getting?
I've seen Fallout 3 and Fable 2 getting alot of nods, and it kind of suprises me. Not so much Fallout 3, it was very well recieved (i didn't like it), but Fable 2.
At release i kept hearing about all these bugs in the released games and once again promised featuers being Delayed to be made avalable in patches. Even when it was being praised for some of the things it did, it didn't sound all that brilliant. Maybe its something i'd just have to experience first hand to understand the brilliance of.
I've been pretty consistantly disapointed this year with big name titles. Game that are getting alot of credit at this time of year. I traded in more games this year then i have in the last 4 years put together. Fallout 3, Prince of Persia, Dead Space were all games that got glowing reviews, and i just didn't get them. I finished Both PoP and DS, games people said had brilliant gameplay and shock endings and i didn't think they were anything special.
So i want to know, or atleast get some opinions, your Top 5 games of 08 and why?
- Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots -
A series thats very dear to me, i've been a fan since the first Solid outing, and i've played everything since then. I think this game was always going to be a highlight of the year for me, even if it was just Crap. So its pure Fanboyism that its here really. Not to say its a bad game, Its a great game that mixes things up from its predesesors, and the last Boss fights of the 4th and 5th acts were just amazing.
- Mirrors Edge -
Game gets alot of crap for its Trial and Error gameplay, but i love it. The Sense of movement and speed i get playing it, i even loose my breath sometimes while playing. It was a blast playing threw the Story (not much of a story though), and the time trials and beating your own times is great fun.
- Valkyria Chronicles
Such a beautiful and different game. Kinda hard too. I kind of feel resonsible for the characters/soldiers under my command. I haven't lost one yet, but i'm not that far into it either. A turn based, Third Person Shooter, Strategy RPG. I really like it.
- Profesor Layton and the Curious Village
Puzzels are fun, and they've done a pretty good job of setting a story into the game too. Though its annoying having a town full of nut jobs who refuse to help you in anyway unless you solve a puzzel for there amusement. I haven't finished it, but its been a great little game for quick playing.
- Siren Blood Curse -
I haven't gotten jumpy playing a Horror game in a long time. Its almost the perfect horror game really. Its tense, can make you feel helpless and has pretty good voice acting compared to the local release of the first game.
So there's my top 5 of 08. Whats yours?
