I myself have only had a chance to play the first 5 minutes of the game, so I've barely got enough to make a judgement call on it yet. However, no one has made a peep in the Downpour section of a website devoted to Silent Hill in nearly a month. What gives? Is the game just completely uninteresting?
I'll finally have a chance to play the game fully next week, but I'm not very excited about it since no one else seems to be.

I wouldn't say it sucks, It's actually pretty great by recent silent hill standards. I think the game lays things out pretty well, with very little grey area for things in the story, so there isn't too much to discuss in that respect. I suspect it might be a situation that our little community hasn't had too much of a chance to play it, or maybe they didn't have interest in it.

I really think the lack of discussion for Downpour is the same reason as anything else on this site. It's the lack of newblood. There's not much keeping new members around either.
It's pretty much up to new members to create any threads since we've already discussed 99% of these games to death and lost all those topics on the old forum. Maybe we've become a bit jaded over time, with losing the old forum, becoming a small community of loyal people (which is kinda awesome in itself) and the series being somewhat underwhelming (even if I personally love the hell out of'em) for such a long time.
I bet if we could get a bunch of newer members, especially new to SH, we'd have a lot more rabid discussions like the old days. The HD collection being a buggy POS doesn't help either. I'll stop rambling about this though.
Downpour definitely does not suck. Discounting Shattered Memories, it's probably the most impressive SH game since the original trilogy. I really like the storyline and how open it is. The option of sidequests is damn nice and welcome to the series too. The soundtrack is pretty damn awesome too. Could have used a bit more variety to it though. I also adore the weather system, although I never really found it frightening. Probably because I frickin love rain and thunderstorms though~
It's definitely not without problems though. It's more technical issues than the game itself. The frame rate likes to drop sometimes and the textures can take a moment to load. It's really not game breaking though, just requires a few seconds of patience now and then.

I'm just thrilled that downpour will cause another installment of Noisy Hill. I like it when he waxes owls...

Noisy Hill Nostalgia!
I have to admit, I kinda lost touch, both time and money are more difficult to deal with these days. Never bought a PS3 (or equivalent) and I am still upset at my laptop. Last Christmas, my brother bought me Amnesia: Dark Descent, and my comp refused to play it. Amnesia was quite literally the only game I got last year, the year before was Civ V.
This is like my first day off in a while, and I honestly just want to be lazy ...oh and drink. About Downpour, it definitely sounds like a step in the right direction.

Well all that sounds pretty positive. Perhaps it's just that SHF is slowing down.

Right, after finishing the game, I can finally return to the forum. I hear a LOT of hate about this game, mainly from fans who complain the laggy frame rate ruins it, or that it's "Not SH2 so it sucks!" Personally, I LOVED this game. The story, the gameplay, the huge area of exploration, the sidequests which add so much more to the story. Even the atmosphere and the symbolism are impressive. I thought it was very original to add melancholy songs to the radio. Now, I wish the ending could be expanded upon slightly. It never explains where Murphy goes after he says he has somewhere to be. But other than that, I applaud Vatra for a great game, and wish all the haters would just STFU.

Personally, I thought SH3 was better than SH2, even though the latter had way better endings. All three of Heather's endings were pretty weak...
I haven't played a Silent Hill title since The Room. Hell, I'm still waiting to play Alan Wake!

I've been playing this game for about a week now and I'm really enjoying it. It's leaps and bounds better than homecoming in my opinion, and better than Origins as well. It really captures some of the vibes I loved most about the original series. I'll reserve final judgment on it till I finish, but so far I really like it.
Also, I liked Silent Hill 3 better than 2 as well. Silent Hill 3's always been my favorite.

i have played down pour, but it looks like another egine oriented game, like everything comes out, lack of story and mainly, its not silent hillish enough, i bought SH HD collection when it came out alone with SH1 for my PS3 and theyre the only games i play xD

I've only started playing it, have to say I've quite enjoyed it so far. The first monster, I doubt I'll ever forget that. Over the course of the Silent hill games I've grown accustomed to the monsters and become confident in walking over to one and smacking it's brains out with a lead pipe, only running away if I can't actually kill it or it's a street monster. But christ, the very first monster put up a good fight. I went there expecting to kill it in four or five hits and ending up in a bloody brawl, by the time I killed it I was pretty battered myself and now I am just warey of going anywhere near any monster now XD, I am no longer striding with confidence through the buildings, but slowly opening doors and peering into the rooms I liked the first otherworld trip, they taken the run for your life idea from Shattered Memories and applied the traditional silent hill style to it and I think it works well. And there's constant mindfucks, like the neverending stairs or how you exit the otherworld in the exact same place where you entered it from, even though you've been running a good distance straight since you started and at no point turned round. Surreal touches like that really reminds me of the old series, it's good to see them properly applied again

I just got to Silent Hill. So far this game hasn't done much to grab me. I'm still gonna finish it though before I make a final verdict.
