Ok, first off The Mentalist aka Patrick Jane (Simon Barker) is a new show airing on channel 5 in the UK, and is about a guy who can 'read' people. He used to be tv psychic (see con-artist) who now uses his ability to beat crime with a special investigation team.
The team (and said Menatlist) are hunting a serial killer called Red John with a connection to Patrick and his trickery.
Seems daft but I really enjoyed the pilot. Has anyone else seen any of this show? I have only seen the pilot episode which gives a glimpse into his dodgy past and has shades of another cultish series I used to love called Profit.

its been on in Australia since last year ( I think Simon Baker being the lead, and the rave reviews it was getting lead to that), and it really sticks to the known forumula of most police/crime shows. I love it still though, the Character Patrick is just fun to watch and see the reactions he gets. Its on tonight, gotta watch it

Wicked, so Ive got plenty of episodes yet then? Housemates GF loves that kind of show and the premise and teasers got me really intrigued especially the Red John character.

Yeah, its been on in the US since the fall. From what I've read they've filmed 23 episodes so far. Its been getting strong ratings and won a People's Choice Award for "Favorite New TV Drama"
It doesn't hurt that its on right after another very successful show, NCIS.
I watch only 2 or 3 hours of television a week regularly. NCIS is one of those hours, and I sometimes catch The Mentalist, but not always as it conflicts with the other show that I watch, ECW. Still, what I've seen, I like (for the record, that occasional 3rd hour is eaten up by Doctor Who, or Burn Notice if either happens to have new episodes running at the time).
Also, I've been meaning to catch Profit sometime. A friend of mine owns the series on DVD and thinks I'll love it.

They just aired the first season final in Australia. Nice, solid final. The show seems to be at its best, like alot of series really, when its touching on its 'base' story. Patrick and the Red John case. Its a shame the whole season can't hold that kind of quality, but then, i suppose it would be taken for granted and loose some of its spark if it where always there.
