I've had the experience only once in my lifetime, it wasn't anything special... I focused my mind and voila, it went away. I've met many ppl who's gotten the same thing, and they all seem absolutely terrified of it. I suppose is the idea of not having control over your own body what makes it so unpleasant. The sensation of falling and the absolute silence in my case weren't that hard to bear.
Blacky's last experience, that seems way too vivid... and awfully familiar with some stories I've heard here and there. It's funny how unexplored by science is this, seeing how seemingly common it is.
Has anyone noticed what exactly is that triggered the experience? in my case, I suppose it was extreme fatigue, since I got it after a loooong day of digging on my garden, I haven't been as tired as I was that day ever again.

For me, I think it's just because my mind is so active all the time. It never really slows down and often times my thoughts get more active as I'm trying to sleep.
As soon as I wake up, it starts going all over again.
So since this all happens when you wake up but essentially still dreaming, my mind just has a friggin field day with hallucinations sometimes due to being so active.
That's my only guess. Also, it really is strange how under studied it is. Up until this thread popped up and I was like and it caused me to do some research, I literally thought it might've just been me.
It was fairly uplifting to know other people get this as well. I think it's damn cool. I never found it scary at all, other than the odd irrational actions caused by it (which by the end are just funny as hell).
I've only had one or two legitimately scary experiences with it. Thus is the nature of the beast.
