(Warning: Light-hearted roleplay mode and lengthiness ahead.)
Why hello there. Comfy? I hope so. I'd like to provide a little bit of the past, if I may. What I have here is a little something named in the title: the Ye Olde SHF Scrapbook. What is this, you ask? Why, it's a collection of images I managed to save from the old site before my parting. I shall be paging through, sharing one or two every other day, with a bit of description the best I can. Some will be directly from the forum, some may or may not be (my memory gets fuzzy), and some are just nice little tidbits I'd like to tack on.
I would also like to encourage that anybody else with pictures or information or reflections of their own to please share them. Not that I'm excluding random "oohs" and "aahs", and also welcome questions, but original members, in this walk down memory lane, are a bit more forefront with, as it were, the memories in their own possessions.
So, let's begin with two images:
Ah, on the first page is the flag that was nominated to represent us all. I can't recall who made it, but here it is. A fine flag, isn't it?
On the next page, happily enough is an image whose story I know quite well. I'd like to think the same can be said of Yaygob and, I think I saw here, Ninee, if not just a few who idly observed:
Now, the history of this, as I said, is still fully with me. If you're up for the story, take a seat. If I miss anything, or jumble a fact, I welcome corrections.
You see, it was at one point brought to the forefront of the locals that there was something in Toluca Lake. This creature, which took down the Little Baroness way back then, amongst other ships and persons, essentially making a mess of things for your casual swimmers and fishermen. Now, I'm pretty sure it was nureintier who used scientific methods to disprove the creature's existence, but as well all know, science has no place in Silent Hill.
That being the case, a squad was developed. Formed by Tarot Card, AngelsThanatos, and myself, we took in as many as we could to complete two tasks: 1. To find and subdue the beast, and 2. To try and bring order to the area, as, obviously, our local police force is somewhat lacking. Tarot Card, naturally, took high command, with Angel as his Deputy. Seeing as I was the only one with a working motorized boat in the area, I became captain. Red Sepheroth and Eileen were our squad grunts, fatal Dreams the, um.. well.. being the one that went first into certain situations, Ninee taking on special ops all on her own, and Yaygob doing his best to keep us all at our physical best. Oh, and also Interrupted, the other grunt. What a trustworthy person, no complaints over that one from anybody, and a fight to anybody who disagrees.
It was a fine squad, with a fine tugboat, and we did what we could.
Sadly, it wouldn't last. For whatever reason, it was I who made the mistake that may have doomed the ambitions of us all.
One fine day, I noticed an odd light in the distance. Foolishly, for an assortment of reasons, I had taken it as the beast we sought and started the boat by myself, taking out with the thought that there was no time to alert the others, who were off elsewhere at the time. My foolishness cost me. The light, while it never seemed to move, always seemed to also never come nearer, but I just couldn't turn back. Then came the bumping, ol' Tuggy being abruptly stopped in the waters, and a low rumbling. Before I knew what was what, the beast was upon me. In the ensuing development, which I had no chance in doing anything in, the boat was taken and I nearly ended my days there in the water.
Yet fortune would smile upon me, in a sense. I woke up, washed up in the island that many knows dead center in the lake. All fine and dandy, yes, except there was no way for me to leave or anybody to find me. I.. was there for what felt like years. Eating bark. Yes, bark. The island only had trees, don't look at me like that. What else was I suppose to eat, brown grass? You don't know what "nutrients" goes into that stuff. Wait.. that's how trees work too.. that's horrible logic..
Um.
Huh.
Well, anyway, by complete surprise, my first visitor in how long, braving the lakes of Toluca in a small row boat, happened by me. Owl Waxer, that brave, brave soul, told me of things. Terrible things. And, you know, kind of just dropped me off at shore. Very anticlimatic, that ending, but it works for me. I've been in the process of rebuilding ol' Tuggy, maybe even resurrecting the old group, or forming something new. But I just don't know. All I do know is that the beast is still out there. Mocking me. Like a jerk. And I'll find it..
Here ends today's show and tell! I shall be back to this in a few days with a bit more to show, and, hopefully, not as much as this to tell. Longwindedness is kind of my curse. Still, I hope you've enjoyed this, and I would like to remind that any additions are greatly encouraged.
