Yup, Konami is having a contest where fans can submit original concept art for burial sculptures. Three winners will have their creation modeled and rendered for use in the game's graveyard. Emphasis on "original", as existing characters such as Pyramid Head are not what they're looking for. To enter, visit the Official Silent Hill Facebook Page and click on the "Graveyard" tab.

I was going to post about this. Glad I double checked first. Shame I don't have means to submit though. Would love to win.

The thing keeping me from entering is that I'm just a crap artist.

Aww man... All these contests of criativity... Drawing it would be easy, but creating something cool enough not only to be picked by Konami, but also by the public?! No chance for me. But I think I'm gonna try it anyway.

Probably because english is not my main language, but the examples are making me a bit confused. They want creative sculpted tombstones or single sculptures to be placed only as decorative items throughout the graveyard? ;X

Hearing of this contest, I just had to throw my hat in the ring (after completing some previous engagements) but before I submit it, I want to get some feedback from an informed source- namely, YOU! Please let me know how you think I can improve the following designs and tell which one you prefer, and why. Keep in mind that I only have a day or so to implement your suggestions, so don't wait to chime in Loosely inspired by the Pieta, this lone figure mourns those lost with the Little Baroness. I chose this concept since Downpour will be centered around Toluca Lake and it seemed like a nice way to give a nod to the rest of the mythos I like this version because it evokes a sense of isolation and estrangement which seems in keeping with Silent Hill On the other hand, I was concerned that the majestic background of the lakeside was dominating the piece. Generally I solve this by aggressive cropping but I wondered if wings might address the issue... The whole reason I didn't include wings to begin with is that they are showy and overdone but they definitely make an impact (which is why they are so pervasive) so this version also works but in different ways for totally different reasons

The first one alx. Also, lose the Baroness/Toluca Lake mentions, I believe they stated no mythos involved at all, since Konami wants only designs, not connections to SH lore. Like, at all.

Mabye get rid of the sky? I think that's what is making the background so dominating, it looks too tranquil. Pehaps get more fog in there or mabye change the scene to night time.
I like it without the wings, they distract from the main body

Removed text from plinth, desaturated background... What say you now?

Removed text from plinth, desaturated background... What say you now? Much much better. Have you considered making an otherworld rendition of it? Perhaps make it more watery? I think it would be a good idea. But it works like this too, especially when compared to other designs sent (that are more monster designs than statues for cemeteries).

I want to thank everyone who took the time to comment. This is also a good time to explain that I've clobbered the old pieces with the updated versions, so don't be confused if the art seems to anticipate the critiques. You should've seen it before I got some feeback- it sucked! AlexY: Now I have the feeling that they were looking for otherworld designs all along... I feel like such a limp dick cos I missed that opportunity
