Since we have a "What are you playing?" thread that tells us what you're playing how about a game recommendation thread? Why get opinions of strangers when you can get opinions from people you know! If you are in need of a new game or are on the fence about buying one you could ask questions and hopefully someone who chimes in will answer them. ------ I've been eyeballing two games: one old, one new. The Prince of Persia (2008)This one any good? Its gotten mixed reviews. I like the cell shaded graphics (reminds me of Dark Cloud 2) but hows the gameplay and replayability? Does it warrant a second playthrough? Unlockables? BorderlandsI tend to stay away from online games for many reasons A - douchebags B - The servers don't stay up forever. Kinda pointless to spend X amount of money for a game 5 years later you can't play C - Elitist snobs (also people who quit 2 seconds in) But whatever, It looks decent. I have a few questions: 1- How is the online? I ask this in terms of lag and connection. Because LittleBigPlanet had a p2p setup (if one person had a bad connection EVERYONE lagged. That was me apparently ) or does it have a dedicated servers (because GTAIV and Uncharted 2 I had zero lag)? 2- do you need a talkie? I fail to see the reasoning behind the need to communicate to other players 3- overall impressions? Yay? Nay? Rental?

I didn't care for the 2008 'Prince of Persia', I can't really put my finger on why. There are plenty of people that like it, and i suppose its a much more Casual approach to the series. The controls are simplified, you rarely need to press more then one button at a time.
Befor going into my complaints with the game, but it feels very watered down compared to the other PoP games. Theres simply no challenge and consiquence in it. I wouldn't say there much in the way of replayability. Unlockables were mainly in the way of other costumes, but 3 of the costuems were unloackable by codes (PoP: SoT costumes for the Douche and Elika, and a Altair costume for the Douche). Its got some cool fantasy art design, but the character design tends to be horrible (most people i've spoken to about the game hate the princes design, i played through the game the Altair costume on). It also has a werid way of developing the story/characters, where you'll need to stop moving, press a button to have the characters interact. It can make the story feel forced, but if you don't do this (even if you do in my case) you can end up disliking the characters) PoP'08, IMO, is a rental at best. Shouldn't take more then a weekend to finish, and you can rack up some easy Trophies/Achievements from it.

Which one is the old one? Is 2008 . . . old? Anyway, I don't own a next gen system (they ain't current gen to me until I own one, darn it) so I haven't played either of them.
I know that IGN game Prince of Persia a high rating, but well, of course they did.

The PoP you speak of is definitely much easier and much more easy-going than the former - but it's very very pretty, I for one liked the characters and the setting. If you're gonna get it, it's ideal for lazy afternoons with your girlfriend or something. Doesn't require much brain input.
As for another recommendation - preorder Bayonetta, for the love of Samael. Don't care on wha platform. The game's gorgeous, sexy, and downright awesome.

Dunno if your interested, but Sith Librarian done a review for the 360 release of Boarderlands. From what i hear, the online isn't working so well on the PS3 release. Needs a patch. And Sith's review seems to suggest its at its best with other players.

I would agree on Pop. It looked TITS, but as far as gameplay, I didn't feel challenged I guess. There seemed to be much more control in Sands o Time for example. A lot of the time it feels as if you are just watching the comp play while you keep hitting a button to say "yes, I wanna see more". Freaking beautiful though, and I for one enjoyed the character interactions. Wasn't a big fan of his voice, but some of the stuff was pretty funny.

I thought the newer PoP sucked balls personally.
Borderlands is pretty solid, and innovative.
I'm playing a shitton of stuff...
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. What is to say about this that hasn't already been said? It has a pretty good, though very shot single player campaign, but the main reason people buy these games is for the multiplayer. MW2 delivers tenfold on this premise. Amazingly rewarding, addicting and long lasting multiplayer.
Dragon Age: Origins. Great game, plenty to do, plenty to love. It's kinda like an offline version of WoW mixed with The Witcher. While I actually much prefer The Witcher's world and story, it still delivers. the gameplay is something akin to a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights combined with the classic Bioware Kotor style engine.
Demon's Souls. Brutally difficult, ridiculously deep and strangely addicting and rewarding. While you can say Demon's Soul is a lot like several other games, at the same time no other game is quite like Demon's Souls. It's a unique experience, especially it's odd, yet well done "passive" online presence. It's also an experience almost any PS3 owner should at least play once to say they did.
Tekken 6. Standard gameplay wise, that is in how the actual fighting, the core gameplay, Tekken 6 is better in almost every way than the previous entry in the series. The game adds some new options and mechanics to it's basic formula, and they work, well. It also features a HUGE 40+ character roster featureing more than a handful of new characters and a ton of returning ones. Some that haven't been around for a while. Most of the new characters work quite well too, and are pretty neat. The major downside here is actually the campaign/story mode. It's terrible, boring, bland, and really just flatout shitty. Skip that and practice, play arcade mode, fight your friends or take the fight online and you shouldn't be disappointed.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii. This is an amazing game almost no matter how you look at it. It's classic side scrolling Mario gameplay at it's best. It has a nice difficulty curve that gradually moves up, but balances out with the inclusion of a neat "super guide" feature. Did I mention it's the first pure Mario game to actually be four players? Yep, 4 player sidescrolling Mario action, and it's ultimately sweet, very sweet. Every Wii owner needs this game in their collection.
Nostalgia. A simple, oldschool RPG on the DS. The game holds it's namesake quite well in feeling much like the RPGs of yesteryear in the 16 and 36 bit eras. It doesn't do anything innovative or new at all really, but if you hold fond memories of battling your way through SNES era RPGs you'll almost certainly find enjoyment here.
I play a ton of games, and am constantly getting new games. I work at Gamestop, get a discount and can check things out too, so I play a LOT of stuff. My wife and I both spend a lot of money on games. If anything I ever mention in here sounds interesting, feel free to ask more about it and I'll answer any question I can.
Other games I've played or been playing recently... Way of the Samurai 3 Brutal Legend Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Batman: Arkham Asylum Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Borderlands

I'm planning on getting a PS3 Slim soon. I'm doing this mainly for FFXIII. BUT, of course, I'll need a game to play before that, since FF will be released only by March. Though since games here cost USD$130 more or less (yeah, one single PS3 game here costs the same as 2 games on the States -__-), I'll only be able to buy one game with the console. So, people of the SH community and PS3 owners, I'm open to suggestions: which game should I buy? Post away! PS: It should be a game not released for PC aswell. Cause when that's the case I always get the PC version anyway (a lot cheaper ).

I'd recommend Demon's Souls personally. It's a PS3 exclusive, offers plenty to do, and more than enough challenge. And it's a very unique experience.

Yeah I've heard a lot about it. Personally, I'd give it a chance, but I'm afraid it could get frustrating, since all I hear is how difficult it is. Frustation was what made me quit FFXII by the middle - taking ages to gather materials to make good weapons, the random chests, and a not engaging enough story to keep me through all of that, just frustrated me. I am playing it again now, though... Let's see if I can get to the end.

Got a specific Genera your into? a handful i'll quickly recomend are Valkyria Chronicles (Sort of Turn-based/Real Time/Action RPG), Folklore (Action RPG). The Uncharted games are good action/adventure titles. If your getting a PS3, you might want to look into importing titles. PS3 games are region free. If your local currency is strong against the US, PlayAsia ships to plenty of places.

The Uncharted games are amazing, but they're also fairly short. Any of the fairly lengthy games I'd recommend, like Dragon Age are also on the PC.

Well, technically speaking, LittleBigPlanet is virtually without end. You can play 20 community levels each day and not get bored.
Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box is LOOOONG, and very ADDICTIVE for a racer.
DA:O, Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles for an RPG hit.
...Or you could always import the awesomeness named Bayonetta. :3
EDIT: Oh, no PC games, right.
Maybe Eternal Sonata or the God of War collection? Uuuu, or Civilization Revolution? BlazBlue? SoulCalibur IV?
If you played the MGS series, MGS4 is a must.

Ok. So there are some RPGs, Uncharted series, MGS4 of course (I still need to play 1 and 2), God of War collection and Little Big Planet... Thanks for the tips.
But now, I am not so sure if I'll get a PS3 anymore... I'm hearing a lot on the internet that the PS3 will just last for a couple more years... If that's the case the game library won't get as big as the PS1 and PS2. This really bothers me.
Also, people are saying FFXIII will be the only FF for the PS3. FFXV would be for the PS4. That would be terrible. PS1 had 3 FF games, PS2 had 2 (not counting 11). The PS3 having only one main title (not counting versus and XIV) is just... WRONG. What's up with that?
I'd be paying for a really expensive machine with a terribly limited game library. It's crazy!
*Sigh*
I don't know what to think anymore. :/
