The gambit and combat system in FFXII was a HUGE breath of fresh air for me. I also liked the story and most of the characters. Tactics is also my favorite in the series, but I actually prefer the PS1 original over the PSP port, mostly due to not caring for the cutscenes or the lag before abilities in battle.
My favorites go... Tactics, FFVI, FFVII, FIV, FFVIII, FFX.
Everyone wants the VII remake, but I'd honestly rather have the more deserving remake of VI. It was in the 16 bit era, it needs an overhaul more than VII does.

YESSS!!!!
Final Fantasy VI is the one FF I would give a rats ass if they remade.
Its such a classic though, I'd be terrified they'd butcher it

Even though it's a DS remake, Square did right with the remake of FFIV, so it could happen. Actually I heard that a 3D DS remake of VI is a very real possibility.

Not having played the ps1 original version of Tactics, the PSP port's new scenes and slowdown didn't bother. Also, I really enjoyed the script, which was apparently rewritten for the PSP version.
If there was a DS remake of FFVI, I would definently play it, although I think I agree that it deserves a full on PS3 remake more than FFVII does. I honestly just can't get into VI and I think that part of it is the graphic style. I just really think that it's ugly. I don't mind the sprites from the earlier games, but to me VI's style is just terrible. If it was put onto DS, it might be easier for me to play. I don't know, though, some people complained that the DS version of IV was a little too cutesy looking, and that could be a big problem for a DS remake of VI.
As for VII, I think a PSP port with a reworked script would be sufficiant, although if they go with the all out PS3 remake, I think I would play it now that I can see the original VII's issues a little more clearly.
So, perfection in my opinion:
DS remake of FFV PS3 remake of FFVI PSP port of FFVII
...and then stop worrying so much about the old games and focus on new stuff!

Story and characters are what matters most in RPGs for me. Second place comes gameplay (though that can really ruin a game, even if it has a good story). That's the main reason I disliked FFXII. I didn't connect with the characters, and the story was bland and boring. I couldn't finish it when I played a couple of years ago. Now I'm playing XII again, and I'll try to finish it. The story still sucks for me though. Too political, no emotion at all. I prefer my stories to be more emotional. I need to like the characters and feel immersed(sp) in the world. FFVII, VIII and X are good examples. FFXII just lacked all of that. :/ I hope XIII is better. If it is, I'll buy a PS3 slim. Talking about remakes, I prefer if they didn't remake FFVII. I already played it enough. FFVI remake though, that I'd like to see. I started playing some years ago but the outdated graphics bothered me. I know, I know, but don't slam me please, I'm not a graphics fanatic, but I'm just so used to the beautiful FF (VIII was my first) that it was a huge change for me. :/ So I'd like to see a VI remake. And about XIII's theme, I don't mind if it's not a song made especially for the game. As long as it's a good, beautiful song, that's what matters. I like orchestral themes, but I also like the romantic songs. Eyes on Me and Sudeki Da Ne being my favourite Final Fantasy themes. My Hands follows the same route, so I'm fine with that.

Funny, I just noticed all FF games I've played have been on my PC sooner or later. 7 and 8 were PC ports, and now 10 and 12 I'm playing again through an emulator, since my PS2 stoped working. I wish Square Enix would start porting Final Fantasy games to PC again. I played 7 and 8 thanks to that. *sigh* PC is so neglected these days...

I approve of a FFVI PS3 remake.
But Square seems to be in Nintendo's pocket so it'll be a DS remake or a waggle-fest on the Wii

Speaking of remakes, especially of V and VI, I'm all for it, but not on the DS, seriously. Not because of the console itself, but I fear that it just wouldn't fit. I dunno. Seems that way.
Mmmmm, Terra and Celes on my PSP... Now that would be awesome.
Not to mention THE VOID and GIRUGAMESH!
Anywhoo - about FFXII - the real story is heavily concealed within NPCs and lore, the bestiary is extremely detailed, the storyline is much more to the point and concise, and true, there are no long arduous personal dramas - but that's actually an improvement. XII is about the world and about man not about the introspection of single individuals like the usual.
To stay on topic - have you seen the Cactuars in HD scans? Glorious!

Dude, they fit all of Chrono Trigger, every ending, every animated cutscene from the PSX version, and then even some new content on a single DS cart. FFVI would fit EASILY. DS carts hold a LOT more than most people think. The FFIV remake was amazing, and fit everything from the game, and then a new 3D graphical coat on top of it.
Also keep in mind that not every Wii game has to be a "waggle-fest". Muramasa is a prime example of this.

True, but CT is still good ol' 2D sprites. I don't know really, I don't have a DS (or Wii) unfortunately so I'm not qualified enough for commenting on that - it just seems that way to me.

I think that they could fit Final Fantasy V on the DS, but not Final Fantasy VI. We're not talking about a port here. VI should have a BIG update, if one at all. It already has ports for PS1 and GBA.

FFVI used 2D sprites as well. For that matter have you seen the DS remakes of FFIII, VI or Nostalgia? They're all rather lengthy, and long games, and all also completely 3D.
FFVI would easily work for the DS, easily. It'd use the same engine that III, IV and Nostalgia used. There is solid rumor that this is ALREADY being developed.
Keep in mind that the tiny little DS packs a lot more punch than most people think it does.

That above news should be common sense to FFVII fanboys, but I know they won't see it that way. It's the first "next-gen" FF game, AND, and this is a big one, it's multi platform. That instantly means better sells, for a game that everyone knows WILL sell.

So? Sales numbers are just that, numbers. And if that gets more money to Squeenix for future developments, great.
