Every gamer has had that feeling of disappointment after popping in a game they have been so psyched up about. It might be a shitty ending or clunky combat or awful camera or anything else but the fact remains that the game did not live up to the expectations. Here we can share the games or their aspects that let you down.
Please name the platforms it was released on for those of us who might not know of the game you are talking about and remember to not start critisising the games people mention, each of us have different tastes in games.
So I'll start with: Alone in the Dark (2008 ps2/x360/wii/pc)
I really enjoyed the AitD: the new nightmare back on PSOne so when I heard they were rebooting the franchise with another game I instantly got very excited partly because the new nightmare really scared me and kept me on the edge of my seat a lot of the time and partly because of the lack of decent horror titles at that time.
I did not have an x360 or ps3 back then and my pc was, and still is, nowhere near the minimum requirements so the only option I had was the PS2 watered down version. Now I realized that it would not be anywhere near as good as the next-gen versions but I was still determined to at least give it a try. And my god was it awful, the textures looked muddy, the awesomely presented combination system from all the videos I watched was stripped and dumbed down to almost nothing, there were tons of glitches and bugs and the driving controls were horrific. I only played it for an hour or two before I put it down and gave up thinking that I would never play it as I was not planing on getting an x360. But then a year later I got my x360 and one of the first games I wanted to play was Alone in the Dark.
So I pop the disc in and start the game ... "odd," I think to myself as I play through the first level. The major faults of the movement mechanics were still there just like in the PS2 version although the graphics looked significantly better and the whole level with the building crashing down was just a spectacle to behold so I kept going. And then there was the driving section, my god, how the hell can developers make the car feel like its driving on ice all the time and decide that it works well? That was my first huge disappointment. Shortly after followed the little bugs like Carnby not being able to step over a piece of a broken door or the clunky combat with the right analog stick, the list just goes on >_<
I finished the game though as there were some redeeming boss battles that I thought looked awesome but I definetly won't be coming back to replay this game a few years from now on.
Post away your disappointments

Silent Hill 4: The Room
I just made a lengthy post in the SH4 section why. But one thing I didn't mention was my exteme initial disappointment towards Henry's flat acting and the irritating impossible to kill ghosts which just looked like magic floating zombies so I just kept trying to kill them.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
Almost no one wasn't disappointed by this one. Extemely glitchy and buggy and generally less enjoyable than its ps1 counterparts.
All Grand Theft Autos except Chinatown Wars
The reviews were so good...
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
While many critics think this was the best in the series, I personally liked it even less than Deadlocked. The single-player just wasn't fun, and I never gave a crap about multiplayer, online or off. I remember liking the boss fights and some of the scenes and that's it. Never finished it. The first two are in a league of their own for me, though I liked Size Matters okay. Don't own a ps3 so don't know about the new ones.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone/Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire/HPat Order of the Pheniox
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is not only one of my favorite movie games but one of my favorite games. HP and the SS for ps2 was actually LESS enjoyable than the ps1 version, which I still find occasionally playable. Goblet of Fire I rented, played for an hour then took back. Order of the Pheniox on ps2 was playable for a little while but got very boring. I remember Fred and George saying something very funny about fireworks and me just shutting off the system saying 'okay that's it, nothing else in this game is going to be as good as that so what's the point'. The IGN review said that Order of the Pheniox was the best game in the series while at the same time giving it a much lower review than Cos. Mister, you need to go back and play Chamber of Secrets again because you just don't remember how well done that was. Prisioner of Azkaban was okay, changed things while keeping it the same kind of gameplay and generally worked, but glitchy.
Spider-Man 3
I didn't have to play this one to be disappointed. The reviews told me beforehand. Spider-Man 2 is my favorite movie based game and my second favorite Spider-Man game after the first one on ps1. This was something that should've been the same, but better.
Tiger Woods 2007
Wasted lots of money on the ps2 version. It was crap.
Hot Shots Golf 4
I didn't find it as fun as 3, but the graphics were better, so I couldn't make myself play 3 again. Thank god for Open Tee 2 on PSP. Now my favorite sports game (not counting any racing games except Nascar as sports titles).
(Huh. I've got more of these than I thought I did)
Chrono Cross
One of my very least favorite RPGs. The only thing I really liked is the FMV graphics. Hell, I almsot wish I'd kept it just for those, they were so well done. I'm not a lover of Chrono Trigger, but I enjoyed it much more than this.
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
I'll admit I haven't played this one but its very existance annoys me. I want a REAL Rayman 4.
Final Fantasy VI
Everyone seems to love it so much and I just can't get into it. I think it's how many characters are put in early on. That tends to bug me.
Silent Hill 3
At first I HATED this game. I thought it was scary as hell and loved the graphics but I didn't like the tight controls or the fact that it was so hard or the fact that it was too movie-ish. I've forgiven these faults and found much of the good in it, but I must say, I still find the first third of the game somewhat grating. The fact that you go through two whole levels early on without talking to anyone really bugs me, especially since a lot is crammed into the final level. Though I really like the game now, I guess I do still consider it a disappointment compared to the first two now that I think about it.

These will be some of the more recent games.... Silent Hill Homecoming: While I still think it is a fine game and it isn't as bad as some Silent Hill fans say it lacks what previous Silent Hill games (well, 1-3) did great. I have enjoyed the game a lot, but with every Silent Hill game that has come out since 3 (which was kind of weird be still good, like Homecoming) have just not been that special place you go to. Oh, damn you nostalgia! ;D Resident Evil 5: I thought RE4 was fun, but it was overrated. It was tedious on some parts and the story and locations were just silly at times. When RE5 came out I'm glad the locations changed into something I could accept more but, damn you Capcom for making the gameplay like it was. The partner system is annoying and it really only shines if you have someone to play with. Also... they messed up Wesker forever. Wesker moving faster than light and teleporting? Seriously? Fable 2: Never played the first Fable, but this game... just didn't do it to me. I had expected some more from a game that got such good reviews. Maybe it's just my crazy head. Condemned 2: While the gameplay was much better I felt the game was just too short and the plot got a little weird towards the end. Kinda wanted more!

Forgot a couple....
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland:
Kinda just lacked the ballsyness of THUG2
Jak 2, Jak 3:
I wasn't expecting much from the first game, just a 10 buck buy that turned out to be kind of annoying, dunno why but I hated the controls didn't find the characters funny and died a lot. The second game looked a little promising with better controls but I didn't like all the GTA style stuff. Jak 3 seemed really fun for a while and I liked the minigames but there wasn't enough to keep me going for example Sly 3: Honor Among Theives was also all minigames but there was a ton of really great witty dialouge too.
Grandia:
The game's style is good but the combat is boring.
Now, this is only a slight disappointment, but...
Persona 4:
I don't like this one quite as well as P3 because of the levels. I don't know what it is, maybe that the floors are larger or that the enemies are more spread apart or that the graphics aren't as colorful or I really don't like the music much but the levels in this one just aren't as fun to go through as Tartarus was. I appreciate the scenes in them and I really like the rest of the game but the level design and battles have put this one under 3 for me. Maybe I should put my teammates not on user command so that it feels more like 3.
The Simpsons Game/ The Simpsons Wrestling/ The Simpsons Skateboarding/ Family Guy: The Video Game:
All crap. I liked The Simpsons Road Rage and The Simpsons Hit and Run though.
Ford Racing 3:
I liked Ford Racing 2 and this one just didn't seem to feel the same.

. HACK// (series 1) PS2 I was a bit dissapointed in the game. I remember really digging it when it first came out, but it was near impossible to find copies of the game. I've got vol 1, 2 and 4. All second hand. Shits me. And the fact that it really could have been 1 maybe 2 games. I went back after i managed to track down a copy of the Second game and went to play it, but by then some many really fun action rpg's had come out, it's gameplay issues became all too apparent. The most dissapointing thing about it was that i don't think it lived up to its concept. I'd like to see someone else attempt to do another Cross-Media game that manages to weave each story into one another, as opposed to just inhabiting the same universe.
Prince of Persia (2008) PC, 360, PS3 I hate this game. I hate it with such a rage that i can't actually say what i'd do to it if it looked at me side ways walking down the street, because i'd be arrested. And the thing is, its not a bad game. I just don't think its a good game either. It took all the things they were slowly perfecting in the Sands of Time Trillogy, and watered them down. The thing is, i was (and still am) a big Prince of Persia fan. I suspect part of my problem with the game is that it dosent have a subtitle or number to it, like this thinned out to the point of almost being casual game is meant to somehow replace the memories of my youth. I found the Character of the prince unlikeable, the combat felt like a QTE and the platforming was boring. The voice acting, not that there was really anything wrong with the performances, but more like the direction, And that might aswell be a problem with the script. And as i'm typing this, i'm trying to justify the game in some way, because its a prince of persia title. And the solution i come to? I might have actually liked the game if it didn't have the character of the Prince in it. If it were just Elika. a Princess of Persia.
Mario Kart Wii wii I never really had a problem with the Mario Kart games before Double Dash. I played that for a few hours and returned it. Didn't like it. But i didn't really give it a chance. the Wii game I've given a chance and its probably the Most Essential Mario Kart things that disappoint me about it. Its designed to Give everyone who isn't in the first 2-3 positions a fighting chance to win the game with ridiculous power ups. There alright when your playing with friends, you can joke and have a mini tantrum and get back into the fun. But as a Single Player Experience and getting hit with 4 different Super Special Attacks in the space of 6 seconds is just crap. That and i don't have friends to play with.
ICO PS2.
I like Ico, its an alright game. It just never spoke to me that way it seems to speak to countless other Gamers.

Condemned 2: While the gameplay was much better I felt the game was just too short and the plot got a little weird towards the end. Kinda wanted more! I agree. I really enjoyed the game and I was really getting into it the more the story unfolded. However, as soon as the credits started rolling I said "Is that it!?" It seemed to end so abruptly and I felt there were still questions than needed to be answered, not to mention the final boss battle was pathetic and way too easy. Soulcalibur 4 (PS3, 360): I was excited when I saw the advert on TV because SC is my favourite beat 'em up series, especially because the fourth game included Darth Vader. I wouldn't say the game was horrible but it was lacking in a ton of things previous games had. There was only three main battle modes, Arcade, Story and Tower of Lost Souls. The ToLS acted as a survival stage and you could sometimes select more than one character, almost like a tag team. Sadly, overall, the game was awful compared to the previous ones. There was no team battle, no extra missions, the opening scene looked bleak and dull and it became obvious that the Star Wars characters were only there to advertise The Force Unleashed, there was even a teaser for it in the gallery. The Star Wars characters were out of place and the endings were too short almost as though the creators were too lazy to animate it all. The storyline was also too repetitive. I want a new story not the same old, 'Evil sword comes back to life and must be destroyed.' What does Darth Vader want with Soul Edge anyway, he's got a light sabre! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Game Boy Advance, Microsoft Windows, PS2, PSP, Xbox, Nintendo DS, GameCube): I have only played two HP games. The Philosopher's Stone and Goblet of Fire. I remember finding TPS really fun to play. There were lots of different things to do, people to talk to and it was free roam. GoF was way too short. I finished most of it in a day. Sometimes you had an annoying high angle shot which made it hard to see what was ahead. I'm not a fan of high angle. This game seemed tedious and Voldermort is too difficult.

I don't play as many games as I used to. I have some sort of video game ADD or something now. I blame the internet. I only have a few that come readily to mind.
Silent Hill 4: I really love the game but the trailer hyped it up to be something a bit more than it ended up being. I expected the room to be a lot more frightening. I figured it'd become a lot more otherwordly towards the end of the game. A lot of fans became convinced by the trailer that it was the Silent Hill we were waiting for. We say that a lot it seems. This game could have easily been way, way better. The second time through levels could have been a lot more interesting too. Oh well, like I said, I love the game still but an honest disappointment.
Silent Hill Origins PS2: This is a bitter resentment I still hold towards this port. The damned glitches. I would have been fine with any of the glitches but the music loop glitch is what really did it. How can you mess up the most important part of a Silent Hill game? I adore Origins on PSP. This was just insulting.
Silent Hill Homecoming: Also love this game. However, the general issues many people hold towards this game are the same as mine. Pyramid Head being misused (despite a very good use during his final moment in the game), reused areas from the movie for no reason, Wheeler being a bit too comic-relief and stereotypical (still didn't mind him too much), etc. Not to mention the ridiculous final level. This is my least favorite Silent Hill.
Resident Evil 5: I tried getting into this game. It was alright but so much of it feels off. It felt like they took a definite step backwards with this one. I got roughly half way through and just didn't give a shit anymore. First RE I've never completed. I'm sure I will eventually.
Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta: Only listing this out of a certain gripe and just to be a bit of a jackass. Why is this on my list? Cause I never got to play it. Why? Cause my goddamn Fallout 3 game locks up every 15-20 minutes now. I have it on PS3 but I've heard of this happening on PC too. I've had 3 characters over time in Fallout 3. Two on the original Fallout 3 and one on the game of the year edition. Every single one suffers from this glitch. It seems the bigger my save file is the more frequent it happens too. Argh!

I belive that Ico and Shadow of the Colussus are great games . . . but they're not for me. I sold em. Hope the person who bought them loved them as much as you do vaan-knight.
Also, I think I may be the only one who didn't hate ps2 Origins. There were times when the music would cut out, but sometimes silence is better, I found the mirror transitions definently creepier without sound, and on the PSP there was a time when sound cut out for fifteen minutes, which never happened on the ps2 version. I think both versions were pretty glitchy. I found things easier to see on the ps2 version, and I found the controls a little more workable, so I find this the more playable version, though the sound isn't as good when it's not right in your ears.
Also, Lolli, if you're talking about the ps2 Philosopher's Stone (or Sorcerer's Stone to me) then get Chamber of Secrets because that game is sh*t compared to it. I couldn't finish it. ps1 and pc Philosopher's Stone are also inferior to ps2 Xbox and Gamecube Chamber of Secrets. Most people hated Prisioner of Azkaban for its glitchiness, but I thought it was better than the Sorcerer's Stone, Goblet of Fire, and Order of the Pheniox games.

I think ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are physical proof that you can make Art with commercial videogames too. I agree with Shadow of the Colossus, games beautiful. I've spent time just riding around the game world in that. And Then Running Circles around some of the Colossi. But ICO never grabbed me as much as it could have. In fact, i never finished it. Its still on my shelf next to Shadow of the Colossus (and metal gear solid 4). Naruto : Ultimate Ninja Storm PS3 I kind of liked the Naruto manga for a little while, and i picked up this game cause i heard it was good. It looked brilliant, Cell Shading never looked so good or Cartoon like to me. But i hated the way the story and game progressed. There was a ton of Wall of Texts, Fights felt removed from the rest of the game And the Mini-games fell flat pretty quickly. The game could have used alot more in the way of Cut Scenes aswell. I think i got a little over half way through the game, and there had only really been 2 maybe 3. I was really surprised when i eventually picked up 'Rise of a Ninja' on the 360 to find that Ubisoft seemed to make the Superior game. The whole thing felt more involved.

Story was trash in Condemned 2, but like was mentioned it did drastically improve the gameplay over the original. Still a good game though.
I found myself HIGHLY disappointed with the 2008 Prince of Persia as well. All the hand holding, the lame, simple minded combat, I couldn't do it. Despite looking pretty and featuring Nolan North as the Prince...I just couldn't do it.
But this thread simple wouldn't be complete for me if I didn't mentioned...dun dun dun....
Final Fantasy XIII The abomination of this console generation for me. This game disappointed me so hard, as I've mentioned in a few other posts that it left me feeling like crying. I'd lost so much faith in Square until FFXII, but XII changed things. I ADORED XII, found some new faith in the publisher/developer. So of course I was skeptical of XIII, but started to get pumped for it anyway, and in the end...I hate the game with a fiery, burning passion.
I hate almost everything about it. The character designs are absolute shit, the voice acting was extremely annoying, the writing was worse then the shittiest Disney after school special I could think of ("Moms are tough!" Gimme a fuckin' break...), and above all else...the story was overly convoluted, drawn out and weak...paper thin in fact. But it was the characters that destroyed this game more than anything else for me. I must take the time to particularly point out Vanille. NEVER...I mean NEVER EVER have I felt such tremendous hatred for a video game character as this one. The annoyingly overly bubbly voice actress, and the "I'm a little kid, even though I'm really not! The world is going to hell, but that's ok! I'm super happy and upbeat, pay attention to me, please!" UGH. Think of the most vile, disgusting form of torture a human could have inflicted upon them, and I'd top that if given the chance to inflict it upon this character, and enjoy it.
I gotta quit here, I'm actually getting flustered just ranting about this...I hate this fucking game. Quite possibly THE SINGLE BIGGEST disappointment EVER in my 20+ years of gaming.

Final Fantasy XII

I was able to beat Final Fantasy XII but I went too slow trying to go through it a second time and kinda lost the story. I kinda wish that I had every scene in the game strung together on dvd, then I could watch that and just focus on the gameplay and NPCs. I do think that the combat is kinda boring and the story is kinda ... well, boring but like you said the graphics are good and another thing I liked was the NPCs. I think I liked the NPCs in this one better than any other RPG I've played. So while this is one of my lesser favorite Final Fantasies, it did still do something better than all the others.
Though it'll never happen, I would love it if they made Final Fantasy XV entirely in 16-bit 2D. They wouldn't have to work so hard on the graphics, and could focus entirely on gameplay, story, and music, plus put some good style and artwork into the graphics cause after all it'd be a heck of a lot more expensive. Final Fantasy IX was kindof a "back to older style" game but it didn't go far enough in my opinion, it felt way more like VII and VIII than IV and V. I would want a game that's sorta similar to IV and V in style and gameplay, but longer and with more depth to it espically in terms of gameplay. I mean, they've already done their total graphics powerhouse with Final Fantasy XIII (although some hated the style) so I don't see whey they have to do that with every single game. A lot of people are into retro stuff lately, there's a market for it.
I feel like I'm off topic and need to find another game that i'm disappointed in (looks on shelf):
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronocles PSP, the game itself is awesome but the way you unlock things is weird. I wouldof wanted to play the retro 2D Rondo of Blood first and THEN moved onto the updated version. Doing it not in that order is just weird. Still, I need to keep playing that, never got past stage 4 but it was real fun while I was playing it.
