I've logged about 3 hours into the game now. Ezio has just gotten the Assassins Robes, Half his family hung in the gallows.
I changed the audio after about a hour, so the spoken language is Italian, but i'm a litte worried, since you had to leave the game into the main menu to do that. I think there was some dialogue from outside the animus that ended up in Italian aswell. So i've switched it back. Don't think i was the whole game like that. Game feels a bit more like the GTA / Spiderman formula now, with you taking missions from randoms on the street. Initial impressions are like Deus, if i had to give it a score, it'd be about a 7/10 so far. Really though, i'm only just scratching the surface, and i'm sure that score will improve to atleast a 8 come the next few hours. Alas, its 3:30 am. I need some sleep.

7/10 is a good score.
I would've rated the first one 5/10
The story and the freerunning were/are amazing. But the repetitive gameplay is what brought the score down.
I'd say rent it. 2-3 bucks is alot cheaper than 60
EDIT
One thing that I miss from the first is the conversations between the slain and the Assassin. Maybe we got those conversations given the conspiracy nature of the first...?
EDIT 2
I've almost finished the Truth files.
I LOVE THIS CONSPIRACY SHIT
*ahem*
I can't wait till someone compiles it and deciphers the codes found within the pictures

5/10 is bare bones middle of the line, and quite mediocre. 7/10 is a slight step about mediocrity, approaching a decently fun game still plagued with bugs and or flaws. This is my scale anyway. 8/10 and up means it's a pretty great game.
And unfortunately renting here costs about 10 bucks. So I'd rather just bite the bullet and buy the game if I'm gonna play it. I refuse to spend that kind of money to rent a game. And I'm not into Gamefly or anything, so that's out. I'm a collector though, so if a game has some merit and I'll enjoy it, I don't mind owning it.

Different people interpert scores differently. I've have said 5/10 is Mediocre. 6/10 Average, 7/10 good, 8+/10 great.
I've gotten a little further in the game, found a few glyphs and tombs. Really liking unarmed combat now, with the disarms and all. Had some issues with the controls though, a couple of times ive run at a ledge and Ezio's direction changed about 30 degrees, missing the platform i was running to. Still, good fun though. and very pretty. edit: Alright, i don't know why, but the getting money for completing missions is starting to shit me. Some of them, its understandable, but all the time is just BS. Do players really need rewarding like that? Other then that, still loving the game. I've nearly got all shops in the villa at level 3. Its pretty easy, pulling in about 6,000 every 20 minutes in game. Go on a mission, put my hands into someones pocket, do a little exploring, then head back to the villa to pay off some renovations.

Well, kingofdogs, the overall reaction is that the game's pretty good. You shouldn't base your decision on 1 person's opinion, anyway. Listen to more people and make your decision. I can't rent it, because I'll get the PC version. So I'll have to make my decision by other's peoples thoughts. From what I hear, I'll be getting it.

Well, I beat it, just have to collect the feathers and I'm done. and then there will be a second playthrough, oh, my, yes. After beating it and unlocked the entire Truth file my final score is 8/10. Towards the end the plot picks up and gets way more interesting. Regarding Desmond and the end He is hella quick, no? Even while freerunning he is fast. At the end all I did was counter kills and they were pretty good.
I wonder if for AC3 it'll use the Animus aspect or if it'll be entirely in Desmonds time...?
As for the truth files. I liked how it tied the Templars to the moon landing or how WWII was completely manufactored. Ford had a Piece of Eden then he shipped it to Hitler over in Europe, then he was supposed to send it to Churchill (I THINK. The file only states the name as C) but never did.
Also the whole Tesla and Edison feud. I love conspiracy stuff like that
But here is one thing that confused me: In one of the puzzles it talks about the death of tyrants around the world in Russia they showed Rasputin while in America they showed John Wilks Booth (I think. I'll have to play again). Now, does that mean Booth was an Assassin and Lincoln was a Templar or Lincoln was an Assassin and Booth was a Templar?
I dunno, maybe someone will upload the info to a website or Youtube
Overall, yeah, great game and definetly worth the wait. In the main menu there is a section for DLC. I'm hoping for more missions or maybe some new clothes or weapons.

must not click spoiler... must not click spoiler.... Did you get any of the bonus map packs they had with pre-orders?

Well I gave in and picked the game up today, but I just got in from work, so I haven't gotten to play it yet. I did get a preorder copy, so I have a bonus map, Palazzo Medici.
Everyone I've talked to says it's a major improvement over the first. The thing is, I like what the first game was trying to do, just didn't like how it played out. I also hear Ezio is a much more likeable character than Altair, which is good to hear. Didn't really like him much.

I pre-ordered from Gamestop and did the level without even realizing it. So...kinda pointless in my book but at least they're trying.
I wish there were more variety in hammers. I love those hammers cause when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail

I wish there were more variety in hammers. I love those hammers cause when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail I lol'ed. I've left activating the DLC to later, cause i figuered that would happen to me. I dunno how far into the game i am, haven't put much time into it today. I'm a little dissapointed by how little Desmond/Lucy there has been.

I think there was so much Lucy/Desmond/Vidic in the first AC because they had to frame the story. The whole 2012 / mysterious organization thing.
ACII is shit hit the fan and Desmond has to be an Assassin quick so I think thats why you're in the Animus so much

Gotta say I like this game a LOT more than the first one thus far. I'm about 4 hours in maybe, and I'm quite enjoying it. There's a lot to do, and I like the story quite a bit so far. One of my favorite parts is actually the little "symbol" puzzles you do to unlock a "truth" piece.
The game seems to have addressed almost every issue I had with the original. Color me impressed.

Glad you're enjoying it EDIT Ah, the DLC age. Some good, some bad If you go to the DNA in the main menu and look at the Sequences it jumps from 11 to 14. Prolly DLC packs. I suspect this because if you go to Secret Locations and right behind Home Invasion (GameStop Exclusive) there is 2 blank areas. Didn't the Master Edition have 3 maps included

Master/Black edition does indeed have 3 dlc maps. Palazzo Medici (was also a Pre-order Bonus in some parts), Santa Maria Del Frari and Arsenal Shipyard. I haven't activeated my code yet. slowly going through the game.
edit: you know, i'm starting to miss aspects of the first game. I kinda miss the missions where you'd be researching your target to plan the kill. There dosent seem to be much of that in ACII. Something else i miss are the chases after a big hit. Fleeing the scene of the crime, and getting back to the Assassins Hideout. Those chases could be tense, with a ton of guards on your back. and needing to be careful still once you lost them. Here, i dunno, i've found myself able to take out any group of troops that came after me in about a minute.
