When the PS3 gets something for free...it has me worried. I've seen it time and time again, the lackluster programming for the PS3 is masked with something free. A good recent example is the inferior Mafia 2 port (Compared to both the PC and 360) getting the "Jimmy's Vendetta" DLC for free. Why? Because 2K games openly admitted it was lacking compared to the other two versions.
Now, I'll be fair though, a few times this has happened with no ill side effects, like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dante's Inferno. Both of those games received nice free content and were equal to or even better than the 360 versions.
Still, you've gotta understand my reason to be mildly concerned.
I'm all for multiplayer games, I love them. In fact half the time I get a game I don't even finish the single player because after jumping online it just feels flat and stale in comparison. But, then there are total throwaway multiplayer portions of games, like Bioshock 2. The downside is that they often aren't that good in the first place, and even when they are, unless they're EXCELLENT no one plays them after a month or so, so it's completely worthless.
Again, on the other side of the coin a few games have done this well, Metal Gear Solid 4 including the AMAZING Metal Gear Online 2.0 for example, or the sadly underutilized multiplayer modes in Condemned 2.
We'll see. Considering I'll probably get the game anyway, I'll give it a go.

I got into the closed multiplayer beta, and take back ANYTHING negative I said about the multi in DS2. It's fucking awesome. It's objective based, at least what's in the beta. And playing as the humans or necromorphs is a blast, neither feels more powerful than the other.
On average Necroorphs die faster, but you can select from different types to play and they respanw a LOT faster. Two of the three types respawn immediately after death. Humans have multiple guns to unlock, and can use stasis and health packs, but have a much longer respawn.
Spawning as the necromorphs is also handled manually. You pick which vent on the floor/ceiling/wall you want to pop out of. So if the action is getting hot near an objective and the other necromorphs are fighting hard at that point, you can pop out of a vent near them to help with the ambush.
Humans always respawn at the beginning of the level. You'd be amazing how balanced this feels. As I said, why humans ARE more powerful it evens out on the spawning. Works like a dream. I had a BLAST playing.

I just checked my spam folder and, lo and behold, I had gotten a beta invite.
I'm pretty well known for shunning MP aspects of games. This wasn't TOO bad. Playing as a Necromorph was actually pretty fun and, when you unlock more levels and features, I can see the potential it could have down the road

Dead Space's multiplayer pretty much feels like third person standard FPS objective based fare, but it does it well. It has the progression feature of a Call of Duty multiplayer game, and the "class" mechanics (With the necromorphs) of games like Team Fortress 2 or Killzone 2 (Multi).
It's nothing unique, but it's important that they got a lot of this right. Balancing, progression, etc. Plus they're actively taking feedback from us beta testers upon what to chance. One promised change already before launch is more durability for necromorphs. Not only are you encouraged to report your finding and discuss the beta at the beta testing forum, but they also send out a survey to fill out regarding features, balancing, etc.
In other words, this is a TRUE beta test, not just an early demo. They're listening to us, and fixing things as we play. They even play with us sometimes. I've gotten several responding posts, even private messages from the developers discussing tweaking and balancing. Very cool to see them paying such close attention to what we think, and striving so hard to perfect this. It shows a dedication to their project as well as their fans.
All of this has made me decide 100% to preorder this game and pick it up day one.

Meh... I actually rather dislike games pulling multiplayer trophies. If multiplayer is going to be included into the game, and to be acknowledged as a full-fledged component of the game it's not fair to limit trophy collection only to single player.
There can be so much more fun to be in getting a trophy while playing against other people than there is to playing a single player game. Like my "Ten-peat" trophy in Super Street Fighter IV. Gotten by winning 10 matches straight in a row against online players in ranked mode. I earned that and felt GREAT after doing it. I worked hard for that, and against real, human opponents whom you can't expect to always have the same readable patterns and methods of playing.
You can figure out a single player game down to a science, even difficult ones, eventually. It's going to go the same way almost every time at this point, and then it's just picking up the trophy. You can't predict human players as well, so to me, there's much more satisfaction to earning a trophy through multiplayer. Because you actually EARNED it.

Was DS1's Impossible Mode not hard enough for you? DS2's Hardcore mode will only allow for three saves. For the whole game. That you must do manually. AND no checkpoints. With a 12-15 hour SP campaign, I foresee much cursing in my future Source

So Gamestop won't lemme cancel my order so I ordered the CE edition from Amazon (for faster, cheaper shippping AND no tax).
I'm just gonna return the Gamestop version (after I get my promo code for the Rivet Gun) for a refund.
Anywho, Amazon sent me a code for Dead Space: Extraction that I don't need (already got a code from GS).
Anyone want it? Its good for both consoles

So what's everyones impressions?
This game made me realize how much I love the scifi genre
The difficulty is amped up, which is good and bad
I find myself sticking to the Plasma Cutter and the Force Gun. The FG is basically a shotgun and is good when you're surrounded and need room to breathe
I also find the game much darker. I think its because you're in the middle of the outbreak whereas in the first game the outbreak is already over.
Overall. Good game and even though its an action survival horror, its actually scary both in the traditional sense and the constant tension the game creates by the horde that rushes you out of nowhere.

I didn't find it that hard, played on survival for my first run and while I died a lot at the start I just started using my ammo sparely and switching guns according to the situation (for example I never used FG main fire mode, always went for the concentrated shots which were better in conserving ammo) at one point I had more than a hundred plasma cutter bullets because I only used it as a last resort (played with all the guns as I got them but settled down with Force Gun, Line Gun, Contact Beam and Plasma Cutter ... just like DS1 ). After that I put my second playthrough on Zealot difficulty and it was a fucking joke with all the guns carrying over and the upgrades already halfway done, still, hardcore can suck it I've already seen people go ballistic over that mode and I know I get frustrated easily when a game stops trying to give you a challenge and just throws fuck all your way. I really liked how the environments were colorful and all that ... that gave the sprawl a good sense of it being a real town and all that. I had a real problem with the Ishimura looking like one piece of metal floor being pasted all over so this was very welcomed for me. Loved Isaac's little psychotic breakdowns too, they remind me of the SH3 random scares. Loved those. Over all it is everything I could ever ask from a sequel. Don't really have anything bad to say about it. Now where is DS3 going to be set in? Hmmm
