I just saw that on Kotaku! This is the day everybody feared. Though... there's a slight hope... He could do as Uematsu, and keep doing the game's music as a free lancer, if that's what he is now. But unfortunately, I also think Silent Hill may be done... The past couple of games were disapointing, and I don't feel much strenght left in the franchise. I've had this bad feeling since Homecoming. I guess it's been dying since Team Silent debanded. Goodbye Silent Hill OSTs.

saw this on Kotaku too... Kinda a shame, but he will still be making music i assume. Can always look forward to his next works. And who knows, maybe the Silent Hill franchise needs a clean break from the last memeber of the original team to find its new legs.

Yeah. I'm curious to see in what direction the franchise will go now. I'd prefer a new japanese team... I didn't like the american games. Nothing against american developers, of course they can make good games, but I think SH needs a jap horror element. The in your face gore and violence of Homecoming illustrates my point. That's american horror. I prefer the more intimate, psychological approach of the japanese games.

OH MY GOD! I'm sittin here in spanish class, I pull out my laptop, and BAM! This comes outta nowhere! Never saw it coming ever. He's just been around for so long I guess I thought he'd never leave as long as there were Silent Hill games.

I refuse to believe it. I'll be waiting for official confirmation.
(I can't break down now. Not now. T_T)

Not to sound like a dick but I think he himself was getting sick/annoyed by the SH series. The Shattered Memories OST is by and far the worst of the series. He clearly phoned it in.
It certainly spells certain doom for Silent Hill.
Its a shame

Well, shit. That sucks, but they could find someone else who could do the music just as well. It may be hard, but it can be done. OH MY GOD! I'm sittin here in spanish class, I pull out my laptop, and BAM! ...I wish I could just go onto the internet in my spanish class.

Well you can't blame a guy for wanting to try new things right?
anyways, Akira hasn't had much say on the silent hill franchise for some time now anyways, he's just been there to give his blessings on the work that the new teams have produced. And I think it's time that the music of the games went in a new direction anyways, it hasn't really advanced much since SH4, just been more of the same

I could watch the others... but playing was like... ugh. horrible controls, story was too slow. Homecoming was swift but a good length. not too tedious and it had a good feel X-x

I'm one of the weirdos that rather enjoyed Homecoming, so I won't comment on that.
Either way, it doesn't spell death for the series, but it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Still, as was said above, maybe the series needed a completely fresh start like this.

I wouldn't mind a fresh start.
FRESH START. Not remake

Its a shame to see him go, but its not the end of the world. Its unreasonable to expect him to do the same thing forever.
Konami has many talented composers, and a fresh take could be interesting. Personally, I'd love to hear what Michiru Yamane would do if she were given the assignment.
