I agree with spearofhope, but sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better. Say you get that fanbase and then drop a bomb on them ten years from now with something as mindf***ing as the previous games -a large number of them will probably like it. Psychological horror, by virtue (or lack therof) of the times, is the scariest genre of games. Survival horror is too done to be scary anymore. Psychological never gets old. It's actually enrapturing in way. I do agree with you, but if 9 Hours 9 Person 9 Doors was accepted by Americans as it was I'm willing to be a little more hopeful. Actually the sequel gets released sometime next month I believe. That aside, if I ever get into the movie business (speaking seriously) I will put out a Silent Hill script to revive the series and redeem any possible crap that transpires between now and the time I write it.

That'd be absolutely true. An Influx of 'new blood' (does that count as a pun or any kind of wordplay?) followed by a powerhouse Silent Hill game worthy of the name would be a recipe for Instant Fanbase. But the problem with that is, there's no motivation to create that amazing game if they can still keep making a moderate-high amount of money with minimal work involved.
How to get back that Motivation... that's the question.
Oh well. In any case, I'm moderately sure that Revelations will be worth the watch, and an enjoyable film. On a slight side note, can anybody tell me of any recent films or games that are Truly, truly scary? I can't think of any. I'm hoping for Revelations to be legitimately frightening, but for the life of me when I try to think of an actually Scary modern film, I draw a blank.

New posters (3) and some new stills. The posters, i kinda like the passage one, with heather and that pointed headed guy. The painted group one, less so.

Footage screened at NYCC, shows off interviews with the cast and some of what i'm hoping are light spoilers from the film can be watched here for those interested.

Think I'm going to go watch it tonight...I'll let you guys know... Ok, let me preface this in saying that I understand the immense effort involved with every movie production, and my hats off to everyone involved. They should be very proud of their work. Having said that, I was incredibly disappointed, but I guess it wasn't completely unexpected. What I liked: Set decoration, costumes, lighting... All seemed good to me. The falling ash at the beginning in 3D was kinda cool. The end credits were easily the best part of the movie! EASILY. What I didn't like: The story. It was cliche after worn out cliche, with "jump" scares serving as the only real tension. I felt like it was executed by someone unfamiliar, or completely unplugged from the Silent Hill experience. The dialogue was just awful, and made "Silent hill!!!...Silent Hill!!!" seem oscar worthy. Characters were dashed in willy nilly, in an attempt to throw in as many characters from the Silent Hill universe as possible. Rarely did any of them further the plot, or serve as anything but filler content. I will admit, I wasn't as disturbed as others about the appearance of Pyramid Head in the movie. Sure he doesn't really fit, but he is a very iconic character of Silent Hill, and I understand his inclusion. What did disturb me was the Pyramid Head sword fight I mean really? Seriously?! WOW. Did no one play the game? Seriously. Unbelievable. Has it ruined Silent Hill? No. Has it tarnished Silent Hill for me? No. Why? Cause I don't have to watch it. I mean at least we had the chance of a decent Silent Hill movie. At the end of the day, I was left comforted remembering that I can revisit Silent Hill anytime I wan't to, and nothing can ever take away or change that experience. All I have to do is start the game.

No Australian release date scheduled at the moment. Not overly surprised by the reviews though. We'll except for the crimsons one's. That shits kinda scary.

Is it worth going to see then? I'll have to travel a little further to see it on Halloween. So I'm wondering if perhaps I should go closer to home and watch Paranormal Activity 4 at my local Cinema instead. I'm determined to see a horror movie on the 31st! But as Cinema is quite expensive I need to be certain of which one.

Ahh, this is what I was worried about.
At least the original could be considered art. Disappointed, Basset. Very disappointed.

if you followed the production you can tell alot was cut out of it and when watching it you could tell, imo MJB kept to his word in terms of what he was doing again atmosphere, costume design, set design all spot on but I think with the way the movie came about budget was always going to be cuts at some point.
I think "Harry" character this time around was alot better than "christopher" in the first, the small parts Rose & Dhalia had again where ok acting wasn't that bad in those parts mind you as said if followed production there where bits of both aforementioned characters cut out well from some still shots they released at the time. I think Leonard and Claudia was played ok enough parts a tad short especially claudias thought there would be a bit more. Now Vincent where do you start with him!??!
You could tell there was a lot from the sh3 in there albeit mashed up/watered down but bearing in mind MJB had to adapt alot it was never going to be perfect which I didn't expect. I think for the hardcore this is not something for them if they didn't like the first especially if the ending was anything to go by which is something I really want to talk to those of you that have seen it

I both enjoyed the film and was slightly disappointed. I never had any real expectations to fulfill, but I do think it was a decent movie. That said, the final battle kind of made me go...WHAT!? However, I enjoyed the numerous references made throughout. Jack's Inn, for example, the mannequin room e.t.c. and I enjoyed the hard work and effort that went into creating the set. It was a very impressive set. I knew that Heather and Vincent would become an item though. And that's not a spoiler. Anyone with a two eyes and a head could see it coming. That bothered me a little The ending, however, makes me think they're going to make another one based off Silent Hill 2. Christopher says he has to find Rose before he can leave the town. Does that plot sound similar to anyone? A man searching for his missing wife in Silent Hill. Hmmmm, sequel hook indeed.

Here's something cool for you guys. The director/writer of the movie has a place where you can leave comments. Here's the best part though, he actually replies! So for anyone with legitimate questions, there you go! michaeljbassett.wordpress.com/the-silent-hill-page/I think that they are realizing that the only way a future installment will make money, will be to court the old fanbase from the Team Silent days.
