There were quite many people expressing great interest in a remake of Silent Hill, and with good reason considering how damn shiny it could be nowadays.
I think what people may be concerned about now though, is the thought that rather than a true remake purely to utilise the better technologies available, it could turn out to be a re-imagining of the title in which many aspects that fans hold dear of the first could easily be lost in favour of more action-orientated gameplay (i for one always liked that it was fairly clunky and such, as we were after all playing as a guy who probably only ever punched a person as an adolescent at best), and even rather minor things like the otherworld shifts. There is fair cause to think that the remake could suddenly replace the blackouts with some flaking change like in the Movie or the latest game, and while it is pretty neat imo, i would be very disappointed as it would take away from the whole waking up and wondering wtf happened vibe. Maybe the parts where we see the ghostly image of Cheryl running through corridors would be replaced with a flashed or twitchy apparition of the now standard creepy li'l girl standing doing bugger all ilk, i know that would nark me a tad.
Basically i would stem my concerns from these points, and that if it is made to be only for Wii and Psp it would be unaccessable to a large portion of the SH fanbase.( many people felt they'd have to miss out on Origins until it was released for the Ps2. If a remake was made i would pray that they would at least do the same.)
I can see it as being a profitable deal for the Wii, as people already familiar with the series may very well not be Wii owners and will need to get one of the two consoles in order to play the remake. (i only know one person who owned a Wii irl, and they sold it after it sat idle for ages and we had even joked about how playing a horror/survival horror on it was one of the least appealling ideas ever.XD) Again; I just hope that it would end up on the Ps2, if not Ps3 and/or 360.
I also have great concerns considering how massacred Dead Rising seemed when ported to the Wii..but that is of course down to how much effort people are willing to put into the development of the game.
I dare say that many people would not want much to be added to the game or the story itself, especially in order to tie it in to Origins considering the shakey reception it got and the many fans who still count some of the events as veering in the opposite direction of canon. I personally loved the game, but if Silent Hill was readjusted plot-wise to make it work "better" then i would feel that they had kind of spat on it a little.
I suppose at the end of the day it would be an understandable decision to make the game, but it will always be tricky for the die-hard SH fans to accept what could end up being rather a drastic change in something that sparked the love in the first place. Tis a daring move imo, and if it is to be then i just hope they know what they're doin'.
MoNoChrome- A: Psp's aren't just for playing on the bus, i thought that retarded idea had been whipped quite a while ago now. I loved sitting in my darkened room with my headphones on playing Origins, i could even say that having the whole thing happening in your hands and subsequently pretty much in your face made it even more awesomely disturbing than playing on a tv screen.
B: In agreement with Deus; Careful with the attitude there please. We all have our opinions and frankly if someone wants to pay a breif homage to ZP, then they can darn well do so. Also when you start a topic that can and likely will involve tidbits of console dispute, don't get shocked or uppity when someone is a bit harsh in their judgement. It aint an attack on you after all. (and hell, i rather agree with the sentiment tbh. >_> )
