And that logo is God-awful Agreed. I like the dynamics of the game and the programming involved, but they might just need a new design team from what I've seen so far. The subtitle looks better than the logo.

OK, so I've posted my fanboy rage side. Now it's time to take a step back from rabid fanaticism and look at it objectively.
It might at least be worth a shot, provided you keep in mind that it should be treated as a separate, new installment in the series. There's not much difference between "remake" and "reimagining", but in this case it's apparent. I would advise any newcomer to the series to remember that Shat Memories . . . er, excuse me, Shattered Memories is not canon to the rest of the series, nor is it in any other way a suitable replacement for the original. So, I'd play it for the sake of playing it and just make a judgement based simply on how good a game it is, not how good a Silent Hill game it is.
And besides, it's gotta be better than The Escape.

I'm keeping my expectations slightly low, just to be safe.

I would advise any newcomer to the series to remember that Shat Memories . . . er, excuse me, Shattered Memories is not canon to the rest of the series, nor is it in any other way a suitable replacement for the original. The first game doesn't have much canon to the rest of the series. Samael? Metatron? Judeo-Christian angels on the side of both the antagonists and the protagonist, never being mentioned again, instead being referenced as "old gods" or hinted at as pagan gods instead. The whole alternative aspect of the town possibly being manifested by Alessa with her psychic powers; psychic powers themselves being something that's not covered much in the other games (aside from SH3's harkening back to Alessa from SH1). The soul being a real thing that can be acted upon by physical things (White Claudia), instead of being a metaphysical concept of "self" as occurs in the other games. The entire point of the canon of the series initially was that there wasn't any canon. It was vague because it didn't completely make sense. But we all ate it up because that specific lack of canon allowed us to form our own theories and to discuss (and analyze) them accordingly. A christmas tree with Metatron seals as christmas balls and a Robbie with a Santa hat would fit right in. (Shoppers, make it happen. ) Alas, I am not in Chicago right now, but visiting parents for Easter. Otherwise, I'd have that up fast as hell.

Huh? iPhone. What's going on with that iPhone?
If this game is not good, it would at least be a laugh for me. I'll surely play it at least.

Wow. Why don't they just get a copy of the original and shit on it, then gag themselves and puke on that too. Then get a cow to piss all over that. Then they can take a photo of it and use it as the cover art. Let's remake Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4 while we're at it. Those games have too much combat. Realistically the main characters would just run away from the monsters so lets do that. Lets remake the games and have them run away. And lets make Maria brunette and make Mary Blond. And for fun, let's make Laura a 18 year old transexual that likes to dress like a little girl, who also turns out to be James younger brother/sister from another mother. In Silent Hill 3 Heather could be named Angela and Douglas would turn out to be her dad that raped her, but now he's trying to redeem himself because he's a ghost and he now realises what he did was wrong. So he takes her to Silent Hill to face her inner demons and so he can face hers too. Harry turns out to be Angelas uncle. We find out through a flashback scene. So then Cheryl shows up and is actually in the role of Claudia. Shit is so cash. For Silent Hill 4 they can change it from Walter stalking you, to Christabella stalking you. She's a crazy old lady that stalks children and burns them as sacrifices to the chocolate milk God named Jasper. Jasper uses the bodies to resurrect himself after being burnt in the original Silent Hill 4. It's wibbily wobbily timey wimey stuff that explains that the original Silent Hill games took place in a alternative timeline and that the REAL time line and real canon is the world of the remakes.

At least they stuck to the original font of the game and didn't add times new roman or something.

Even if they changed the font that would be the least of the games problems. I feel like this is just one more, if not the final nail in the coffin of the Silent Hill series.

*sigh* I still think you guys are making a much bigger deal out of this than you should be. Between Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill 4, Origins, Homecoming and now this, I'm beginning to think the Silent Hill fanbase are: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnpleasableFanbaseLets just wait for more information before we automatically judge the game, yeah?

I know it sounds bad but that's just because it breaks convention. We're all so used to the traditional style of gaming that anything different is considered bad. It's just for a bit of fun after all, I think it might turn out to be quite fun, like RE3 where Jill had the choice to fight or run away.

Oh come on. There are so many stupid ass changes being made to the remake of Silent Hill one that the people being upset about it have the right to be. What the hell is the point in remaking a game if you are going to change it? Unpleaseable fanbase my butt. Silent Hill 1 pleased me. Silent Hill 2 was awesome. Silent Hill 3 was great. Silent Hill 4 I wasn't that into but it doesn't completely suck. Silent Hill Origins was pretty good too but had some flaws, but it wasn't bad. Silent Hill Homecoming. I haven't played it yet but I'm not all that pleased with what I know about it. Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Well, I haven't played that yet. Maybe some of it will be fun but to me it's still a bunch of unneeded changes for no good damn reason. So I'm not a fan of 2 out of 7. Yeah, unpleaseable me I guess.
If you're going to remake a game, respect the original enough not to make dumbass changes. So instead of dark, burnt run down otherworld we get Jack Frosts Nightmare Kingdom. What the hell is the point in making it frozen? If it isn't broke don't fix it. The only thing they need to change were updating the graphics, maybe some new puzzles and locations too. So now no combat system. Wonderful. What am I going to do, tell the game bosses I'm a pacifist ?
RE3? Fight or run away. You don't even get that choice in this SH1 remake as far as I can see. You only have the choice of running. Sorry, playing "Run for Forest Run" in Silent Hill isn't my idea of a good psychological horror game. If you're in a town full of monsters no matter how scared you are you're going to end up having to defend yourself eventually or die.
No offense to anyone here okay? I just don't like what I'm seeing with this game. Not one bit. The only thing I DO like about it is if I choose to buy it I can get it for PS2 and not have to rush out and buy some over priced PS3 or some lame Wii with it's cartoony graphics.

Who knows, you may not be able to kill them but there may be an option to throw things at the monsters or distract them in some way.

I'm just sick and tired of seeing Silent Hill fans scream bloody murder whenever a new Silent Hill game comes out. I'm sick of unpleasable fanbases in general actually, especially with the Fallout fanbase and the Silent Hill fanbase. Honestly, this started with Silent Hill 3 simply because the game formula was "getting stale" and the plot wasn't as "deep or thoughtful as Silent Hill 2". Then Silent Hill 4 comes out which is a complete departure from the series in many, MANY aspects and again, fans scream bloody murder because it's too different and not scary. Then Origins, oh boy, a western developer making a Silent Hill game? "BLASPHEMY". The Butcher? "ZOMG PYRAMID HEAD RIPOFF, WHY DON'T THEY JUST USE PYRAMID HEAD!? THE FRANCHISE IS RUINED!"
Then Homecoming. What!? The game is finally changing the stale gameplay and fixing combat mechanics that just won't work in this generation of gaming!? The main character is a SOLDIER!? It's gonna be a RE 4 clone, even though Homecoming has the most toned down gunplay! Oh no! Pyramid Head is in this game! It's exclusive to James (even though it's really not)! This franchise is doomed!
Now this with Shattered Memories.
Now I apologize for overreacting above... but I'm really quite frankly sick of all this whining and complaining from Silent Hill fans and the various assumptions about the latest games. I cannot tell you the number of Silent Hill "fans" who refused to play Homecoming because they falsely heard or assumed it was a shooter, just because it was made by western developers.
For Shattered Memories, it honestly would not surprise me if Climax saw the overreactions with the combat in Double Helix's Homecoming and because of that they decided to ditch combat, thinking it would please this fanbase. Except now people are whining about the LACK of combat, further cementing the idea that this fanbase is unpleasable. As with the icy Otherworld? Why the hell not? Heaven forbid someone tries something NEW with the Otherworld instead of all bloody and rusty (Silent Hill 1 and 3 and Origins to an extent), dirty and moldy (Silent Hill 2 and the theater of Origins) or just uses the movies Otherworld (Homecoming). Heaven forbid Climax try something NEW with a concept that's NEVER been firmly established in any Silent Hill game.
As for the whole "remaking Silent Hill 1" business? What makes you think this game could possibly be canon? The game doesn't even connect well to Origins, which Climax ALSO developed, nevermind any other Silent Hill game. You don't even know the whole story of this game! Even if this game WAS canon, it could be someone else reliving Harry's memories, except they are distorted and altered. The whole idea of "Oh well what is to stop them from remaking other Silent Hill games except they turned so and so into a transvestite" business is completely over the top, it's jumping the shark and quite frankly it's highly insulting.
This game is an experiment to take the Silent Hill series in a new direction without it becoming stale or becoming a shooter. Yet fans STILL whine about this. At this point I honestly think Climax should just stop listening to Silent Hill fans and do their own thing. Many of Homecoming's problems were due to it trying so hard to fit into the series and the main reason for that was the bloody fans. I don't want this game to see the same fate, bogged down and it's creativity limited, due to fans.
In other words, many of you don't know anything about how this game will be. It could be the shittiest game ever made, it could be a stroke of genius. Many of you have only read an interview/preview and saw some screenshots. You've all yet to see this game in action and honestly, you should stop assuming the worst because chances are, it will NOT be as bad as you think it is.
Now I apologize if I've offended anyone with this post. But it's utterly ridiculous how some of you people are overreacting to this.

Profoundly Mad, you do have a fair point there. BUT, let me ask you this since I don't know this. Where you around when the trailers for SH3 and SH4 hit? Specially SH4. Silent Hill fans where going fucking ecstatic over it. It looked so very promising. I remember threads on the oldschool SHF discussing how horrible (in a extremely good kind of way, you know that horror-feeling-way) the whole concept felt. How the trailer spoke volumes, and could be one of the scariest games in the entire series. What let us down there, was the extremly bad gameplay with destructible weapons, invincible ghosts, and the cheap trick of going through each area twice. This is where the fanbase got miffed. Nobody really complained about SH3, since they felt it was good. And a wonderful continuation of Silent Hill 1. And well, Origins. Of course everyone was hesitant of Origins in the beginning. Do you remember the first pictures of it? You know, the ones with Resident Evil 4 over-the-shoulder view complete with laser pointer, MGS-style weapon-switching and purple enemies? This: And sure, alot of people bitched about The Butcher, because well, for a while it DID feel like a Pyramid Head knock-off. In all honesty, did we even ever get a hint of an explenation for him? When it comes to Homecoming, well, I was one of the biggest defenders of it on SHF. I took on hordes of users in threads to explain to them just WHY they should give it a chance, and why having a soldier as a main-character could prove highly interesting and amazing. Unfortunatley, I felt that I was wrong after playing it through once. The gameplay was wonky and unbalanced, no exploration at all except the very linear path and placebo doors. Now, here comes this. Yes, I agree with you that nothing states that this is canon at all. And, to be honest, we DO kind of know the whole story behind the game, as they had said the premise and all that is exactly the same. A remake could've been good, with upgraded graphics (if so only for the Ps2/PSP/Wii), new locations, and maybe even a few new characters, kind of like Resident Evil Remake. But they decided for something else. Something different. There was reasons for why Silent Hill 1, 3 and Origins had that rusty and broken down Otherworld. I bet there probably is one aswell in this "remake", but, by doing that they are fucking up the continuity. What will people who buys this as their first Silent Hill game think when they play the rest? It won't make sense at all for them as far as we know. And before I quit this reply/rant/whatever I need to say, what where they thinking taking out the combat? Seriously. I take it that the Lizard-fight, and at least the Moth-fight won't make it into the game now. Unless they all rely on Quick-time events and running away. I am very, very, cautious about this game because, well, this is the game that made me fall in love with Silent Hill, the very first Silent Hill-game I ever played, they are fucking around with.
